ok everyone, here is my system:

    (already have)
    head unit: kenwood excelon ps709
    front speakers: 6.5" infinity kappas
    rear speakers: 6X9" infinity kappas

    (coming soon)
    high amp: RF punch 200a4
    sub amp: RF punch 500a2
subs: (2) 12" RF punch dvcs

now, for my question. should i run the subs in stereo or mono, and why?

    Thanks a lot!

Theoretically, it should make no difference if both the left and right channels produce exactly the same signal at exactly the same time.

In reality though, you should have u'r subs in mono.

If you have them in-stereo, phase and amplitude differences between the left and the right channels may cause some cancellation and u will get reduced bass.

I say it does matter, if your doing SQ and you want everything to sound as it should. I do agree somewhat with the theory "bass is omnidirectional" however, listen to a good recording of orchestral music, on a good set of studio monitors, and you will hear clearly that the tuba's play on the right of the stage, the timpany left center, drum kit centered, depending on the recording... I say, and I am in the process now of doing this myself, use a small set of stereo subs up front, to augment stereo imaging from the large subs in the back. IMHO

    <font color="teal"><cite>To what audiophyle said:
I've noticed if you keep your subs x-overed
down at 50 hz and have solid performance
up front for 50 up then the aforementioned
instruments will stage up well with the
mid-bass drivers. The subs just play that
extra little bit to reproduce the lowest
bits of info to give the instruments body
but they still stage up front and on the
side there supposed too. Generall your
brain doesn't localize subs to well
considering the wavelength, below 50 hz
    especially.
Now that I think about it my mid-bass 8's
could just be doing what your small
    set of subs are....
Do you play your small subs all the way
down? Mine go 50-275, that seems to give
me good stage even on the low end.

Tech, I just got my 7" subs in the doors of the accord (no easy task with the small boxes I built into doors) and yes, Dukk, they are vented, tuned to 42Hz! Anyway, yes, I play them all the way down. They play up to 73Hz, where the a/d/s/ mids (also vented, Dukk!) knee is. Brought much needed lower-mid/upper-sub/missing-clarity into my system. Havn't had access to an RTA since I put them in, and look forward to seeing what my curve now looks like. I did have to EQ out some low end stuff (was loud in the lowest registers, around 30-50Hz or so) but made big difference in not only spectral balance and fluidity, but also placement is now more "correct". Very happy with results.

Ahhhhh another happy defector to the DarkSide

I'll agree with Audiophyle's test using orchestral music and midbass up front. I'm going to disagree with it for subbass though (had to )

Take those 2 home monitors and place them right next to eachother. Now how's the bass stage??? Most car woofers are right next to one another. Maybe in a Humvee you could get left and right subbass, but it's better to focus on getting the separation in the midbass up front...

And that's the bottom line cuz:
    LORD DUKK SAYS SO!

...hey that may be a new tag line......

I believe the correct statement would be something like "Lord Dukk is ATE UP!!!"
