Ok if I wanna leave the "yota" factory battery in I would just run a power wire back and fuse within 18"if the front battery then from the first rear battery I would fuse comming within 18" back front... Then just loop the positive to the positive then the negative to the negative... HOW WOULD I GO ABOUT GROUNDING THEM? just make one ground and run like a 2 gauge wire to a 2 4 gauge wire distro block like that? Help I'm confused?

basically yes make sure u have a common ground on the rear batteries. also be sure to fuse inbetween the two rear batteries and on the way to the amp. i would also change the front stock battery as well even if that means u only have a front battery and one rear for awhile

I'm with Twinky on this one... I would not suggest keeping the battery in the front of the vehicle, espeically if its old. You would be better off just removing it, and using the two new batteries instead. As far as grounding is concerned, HOW you do it is not that huge of a deal, just make sure that every batteries negative terminal is grounded. Then you can wire your amps straight to the rear battery if you wish, or use distribution blocks however you like.

if you do keep the batt in front you must wire an isolator between the front and back. otherwise the batteries will drain eachother. if you run the same batts you don't have to but having 1 old and 2 new you do.
best thing, ditch the old one.

not tryin to jump in or confuse anyone, but i put 2 new batts in my trunk and left the one under the hood as well. the one under the hoos is fairy new but is not the same size/brand as the others. i have not had any problems as of yet.

Exactly. It can be done, many times you can even have good results. However, if the batteries are different, or of different ages, they will have different charge profiles and thus become charged differently. This may not be a huge deal, but over time the weaker batteries will die. For this and other reasons it is a situation that is preferred to be avoided if possible.

I have also run 1 x smaller battery in the front of the vehicle & 4 x larger batteries in the rear all run from 1 alternator with no problems whatsoever. These were all wet cell lead acid type though smile.gif

Ok the reason why I wanted to leave the stock battery in was because in a 1997 corolla the B+ terminal has a bent harness type attachment that contours to the factory (acid) battery and looks way outta place with my dry cell under the hood... Thats why I want the factory up front and the 2 dry cells in the back... I really need a system diagram to help me out...

I used a red top Optima on my 1996 Camry and bent the factory harnesses straight, enclosed both leads up to the clamps in split loom tubing, and mounted them to some Rockford screw-in side terminals on the Optima. Used the RF battery terminators on the top posts of the battery. Put an additional 2 gauge ground to the negative terminal of the battery and ran two gauge back to the amp rack in the trunk off the top posts. I used the stock alternator to run a Power Punch 250X2, a bridged RF Punch 4080 and a Punch 100. Ran this setup for over 2 years without a problem (until my amps were ripped off)
My 2 cents regarding the Toyota Wiring Harness. Good option if your new batteries can accept both top and side posts.
Hope it helps,
