I'm currectly trying to choose a Class D sub amp for my system. I'd like it to put out between 400 and 800 watts into a 4 ohm load. I was considering the MMATS Baby D at 600w into 4 ohms, and my installing shop guy recommended Xtant amps. Could someone give me some info on these amps and also recommend a few other good choices? I'd also like it to have a remote bass knob. Thanks!!

Are you stuck on a 4 ohm load? Or can you possibly change impedence? I'm just asking because, most class D amps on the market are suited for lower impedences. There are some exceptions though. The newer MTX class D's are pretty much made for 2 ohms, but they still pack quite a kick at 4 ohms. Also, if you can find one, an Infinity Beta 300 would be perfect for you. It puts out 1000 watts at 4 or 2 ohms and is class D. Hope that helps.

go with the memphis 500D. Remote bass knob, will do about 800 Wrms @ 4 ohm mono. about $300.00 hope this helps

I know the MMATTS are the best class D's out there. They are more expensive. I'm not saying that the other class D's are bad or anything, just that the MMATTS has been given better ratings more than the others.

another brand of class d amp to look at is the earthquake 200dhc. I use 6-200dhc's on 18-12"magmas, these have been VERY reliable for me. i have ABUSED these amps for nearly 1 1/2yrs(the sub system resided in my everyday driver for the summer of '99)and have only lost one amplifier during the course of competition.
Just wanted you to be aware of yet another quite capable(from my experience)class d amplifier. good luck with the system.

If you can get a hold of the Mmats go for it, I was looking into the baby d myself, until I found something that suits me better, and as for the memphis 500d, That is 500 watts rms at 2 ohm how is it 800 rms at 4??? But if you wanna pay 650 for the mmats, it will be worth it.....just make sure you get warranties, from what I have been told ( no way bashing the product I was gonna get one myself)

What did you end up getting Iggs?

We got the Iggs into some Audiobahn, another great line up....They are a lot cheaper than MMATS, but of rargumants sake.....MMATS is the bomb...I loved my baby d, I shall miss it.....and with the baby d you are looking at about 1000 watts, not 800....they are devilish little suckers

That's cool Lep. I am very interested in going with Audiobahn myself since they are so affordable and they get the job done.

Thanks everyone for your helpful information. I think I'm gonna go with the MMATS Baby D, I've heard nothing but great things about it, and it has some nice power output. It has a great reputation with everyone I ask. Yes Devastator, my impedance is locked at 4 ohms, I'm planning on using the amp to drive 1 Diamond 12" sub, and I have no room to give up for another, cuz it's a daily driver. Does anyone know about Xtant's class D amps? Thanks again for your help!

The Xtant class D's make their power at either 1 or 2 ohms.

If you can afford the MMATS, then sure http://www.termpro.com/ubb/smile.gif
I second everyone else's options: Earthquake, Crossfire, Audiobahn, MTX, Infinity Beta (might still be able to find a few strays), and even XTant (very clean amp, but some realiability issues.) JBL Power amps are another option - can find desciptions and prices at crutchfield.
You might also want to look into regular class a/b amps: PPI, PG, RF Power series, Orion XTR and HCCA, and the above's a/b lines. (among others)

My 3 cents on a 1/2 cent day.
JBL 12001 is a good amp also. Around 850watts into 4ohms and around 1400 into 2ohms at 14volts or 700watts into 4ohms at 12volts. You can get them on the Internet for 419.00

For the price, the Linear Power 2.2hv will spank the MMATS, and you will have better warranty service.
But the Linear isn't class d...

I was just wondering why you decided upon a class D amp? My question arises because you are not running a lot of power, thus the greater efficiency saves you little.
Just curious.

I'm not running a massive powered system, but I'd still prefer to have the Class D efficiency, cuz I can't modify my car's electrical system. I want to stress it as little as possible. Also, every little bit of power that I save means more time I can run the system with the engine off, which is important to me.
Once again, thanks everyone for your help!

If you are really concerned about power consumption, Do not choose a 2 channel audiobahn, had a 2300hcx, it is extremely powerful, but it will drain a battery.....i do not know about audiobahn class d amps, but the stereo amps are great
