has anyone ever modified the door/door panel to fit a pair of 6.5" midbass drivers in each door?

A 6.5 should fit right in the stock door location. I put a JL XR set in the doors of our Talon and they dropped right in. What actually is the problem you are having?

no....I wanna put 2 6.5"s in each door for a total of 4 midbass drivers.

it's okay....I'm contemplating either a pair of 6.5s in each door, or an 8....I'll do some measureing tonight..

The 8 would be cool and should fit with some slight modifications. Then put a 6.5 set in the kick panels!
