View Full Version : Angling Midbasses?

I was wondering what eveyone's opioion was on angling door mounted midbass drivers so they aren't firing directly at each other? Seems like a slight upward, maybe backward, angle would help with possible phasing problems However I could also see where you could say being that far apart, and having objects in the way (legs, center counsoles), slight angling won't make a noticable difference. Anyone got any input, I'd like to have a "game plan" when my dynaudios get here.

I only angled my back and up for effect.
I really don't think it would make a diff
in the frequency range I ran. 50-275hz.
Maybe male vocals got a small imaging help.

Good point on the range they will be running. Mine will be running a little higher than that, up to about 600hz. Obviously the higher you run them the more "aiming" would help, for some reason I didn't consider that.

for staging purposes i would angle them up at the dome light (if you have one in the middle of the ceiling). Thats a general rule with most cars. But not in all cases.

Will be very effective because once you get above 100hz these frequencies start to become directional. therefore you should see an improvement in your staging.

I plan to angle mine at the opposite passenger's head, putting them on axis, simply because the less directional nature of that sound will lead to the closer driver being easier to localize, therefore giving an over-all more "stereo" midbass than the conventional point-across (which is usually due to space/time/money restrictions, IE not enough moola to build out the door)
