View Full Version : How do I hook two radios to one crossover at the same time?
Ok, my question is can I hook two radios' rca cables together without hurting them? One radio will be up front and other in the back. They are going to be hooked to the same inputs on the crossover. Only one radio will be on at a time. Will this work, or will one radio feed power back into the other one and burn the preamp out of it?

I did the same thing a few years back with a pioneer cassette and cd player.. they didn't work right hooked together the way your saying.. (just splice) what I did however was use a dual amp balancer (fader bascially) it's passive, pioneer/alpine probably a few others made them. you just hook it up "backwards" two sources in the two outputs and the input is your output.. you just turn the knob to switch from source to source.. make sure you don't get an active device (that you hook power to) or the signal won't go through backwards (from the outs to the in)

Just for the sake of experimentation, I would get a pair of Y-splitter RCA cables and hook it up manually, and see how it works.. A preamp that is off would not offer a load to the other preamp to my knowledge, and the expense would be minimal.

<font color="blue"><cite>The inactive preamp could offer a small
load to the signal. I wouldn't worry about
toasting anything unless the active unit had
5 or 8 volts out and the inactive unit was
only capable of .5 volt.
I much prefer getting a electronic preamp
with switchable preamp and select decks that
way.

If one of the decks has changer controls, many brands offer adaptors to make it a line input...
