Anyone know how I can put a 6.5 in my door without modifying it. I want to keep the stock look, I just recovered the grills with new grill cloth and I dont like to build out doors unless absolutly necessary. Any input is great thanks!
------------------
What year? Most 6.5s will fit in all but the oldest Preludes. The plastic cup needs to be removed, and a spacer may need to be fashioned out of wood, but all but the beefiest midbass should fit.

Dukk.. i know its an old post!
i got a 90model prelude and i know about the plastic **** they speaker holds on to...
if i make a new mounting baffle of say 12mm mdf (0.5inch), or thicker, i can see that i can mount a fairly standard 6.5 driver of say 65mm (2.6") mounting depth. BUT if i do that then the door trim will not clip back on...
help!!
and whats the bigger driver u've installed in a 90 prelude???
oh, and any tips for sound deadening the doors?
bloody preludes.... impossibly shallow doors and small boots (trunks)

I saw a '90 'lude with 8's in the doors... and NO buildout! They did have to move the window tracks back about an inch or so.

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

Put some Illusion Audio speakers in the doors- if you can get them in Austraila that is. I have their 8s in the doors of my 300ZX and they rock! The 8s are 2 1/4 inches deep, and the 6 1/2s and 5 1/4s are even more shallow. If you can't get those speakers down there, I will be more that willing to fly down to Australia to deliver them. Orion also makes a really shallow 6 anch 8 inch midbass.

I have a prelude too, an 88, and boy it rattles like a mofo!! Anyone have any tips on reducing the rattle the doors and windows make?
As for getting 6.5's in the doors, it wouldn't be easy, but it's definitely do-able.

Macrom / Morel and infinity all make some shallow mount 8's.. Now, while they aren't the best drivers in existence, they'll give you the midbassa thumpa, so who's complaining! :)

Macrom and Morel not good?! They are nearly as good as the Dynaudios that are made next to them. Practically the same speaker. They maybe better because they cost alot less than Dynaudio.
40 lashes for ShadowStar. :P
Morel rocks man!

I always thought Macrom and Morel were more or less one in the same, I believe they're both owned by the same peoples. It wouldn't be hard to believe that Dyn is also a part of the Morel/Macrom world, considering the quality of all 3 is pretty much equal, at least in my eyes.

The way I understand it is that Morel and Marcom are the same company and that they share engineering patients with Dynaudio. Plus the speakers are made in the same factory and share many similarities. CraigMBA explained this to me one day. I can't remember everything that he said. He would be the one to talk to about this.

Spyderman, yup u can get Dynaudios here..
their magnets are MASSIVE!!!
but i'm not going to get them, coz i need 2 arms and 2 legs! hhehee
pricey, though it would be awesome to have their 2 way 7inch driver + tweets... very nice... but i want something that sounds very nice, clear highs, solid midbass and that gets loud!
i am looking at
Morel renaissnace 6.2s
Cantons R2.16
A/D/S 336is (providing someone Overseas can buy if for me)
some others i cant seem to remember at the moment..
my doors/frontstage will be updated once i finish my sub system....

If you like the Dynaudios, then I would get the Morels since they are almost the same speaker. The Cantons would be second, no, the a/d/s, no...they are all excellent choices. So hard to decide on pecking order after the Morels.
Jimbo

they are all nice components
BUT the Cantons are prob the first choice only because, its less than half price of the others! no kidding...
ie Canton rrp In Australian dollars- $509
Dyna 7inch+tweet rrp $1199
A/D/S rrp is US650 = AU$1000 but cant get them
Morels are about $1000rrp...
so i think the choice is fairly easy! hehe
Go Canton Go!
I don;t know how they make such a great speaker so cheap...

I gave Cantons serious consideration before I bought the Illusion speakers. I never got to hear the Cantons and no Canton dealer around would work with me on the price because they would have to be special orders- which would have to be paid for upfront. So I got the 8s for what I would have paid for the 6 1/2s. Enough of my story though. Excellent choice in speakers.
When I go to Aussie, I am taking my Illusions with me...

Dude, the Canton's absolutely ROCK! I am in totaly agreement with Dukk, how the hell DID they make em sound so good, for so little money? OK, the ONLY bitch I have about them is the x-over... Oh well, no biggie, in the grand scheme of things! Good choice on the a/d/s/ components, you WILL be happy with them. I think for the money, I would have gone with the PX instead of the is, but, we're not dealing with my money... hehehe! The px are the hand built ones by the way...

I hear ya on the Xover. Seems that many European manufacturers pay little attention to high end caps/coils. Oh well, I usually go active anyway or make my own passives.
The absolute hands down best passives I have seen for car were on a set of KEF 3 way comps a buddy owns. I modified them for biamping and they were truly awesome inside!
