View Full Version : How much concrete in SS?

BoomKing

Are all the loudest SS vehicles using a boatload of concrete?
Curious if any of the louder SS vehicles are actually driveable to a show, by that I mean going safely on the highway to a show and not just in town driving.

Here the chance to brag that you have a highway worthy SS vehicle that can hit a big number!

I drove our vehicle, which I think is pretty loud, to the local tech school which is about 6 miles from the shop. I got it up to 55 mph on the highway going there.

The SS 3-4 van on our team doesnt weigh near as much as Bobby's does but it has about 2300 lbs of batts, 200lbs of amps, 3-400 lbs of subs and then about 500+lbs of wood in addition to the weight of the van (3/4 ton Dodge Ram Van) and it was driven to 3 different shows last season all within 4 hrs of here. On average he ran 60-65 mph

Our SS NW car has no concrete.

We have drove over 4,000 miles to shows in the last year, in various countries, a good speed is 65/70mph but we did do 100+ on a large hill in France ;)

seems to me that would be somewhat unsafe.. how do the brakes slow that thing ? what if you had to stop suddenly ? just curious..

not that it matters but isnt there laws against operating vehicles over their rated gvwr, or whatever?

keep on truckin

I can still drive the YOTA on the road it is a little ruff though!!!

But it is nice if you can still drive them BUT if you trailer them whats the point???
I mean you can't drive NASCAR cars or real NHRA cars on the road either!

This vehicle is owned my our company and I would do nothing in it which I deem unsafe or would jeopardise anything that makes my livelyhood and that of the 18 families that work for me.

To big nois:

If you have ever seen me load either of our vans on trailers, you will notice how meticulous I am with regard to safety.

In closing, don't question the things I do with regard to the safety of me and the safety of others I am around.

To Rilay... Missouri laws are one thing the laws of physics are another, conversion van lisenced as a passenger vehicle wtf is that ? and why would you start with a wimpy 150 van anyways ? I would say you are luckier than you know driving that thing on public roads.

Don't question the things you do regarding safety... whatever, sounds to me like you were more cautious when you loaded your van than when you drove it.

In 2003 I drove my truck to almost every show. The truck had 4 15" (XT's and Xtremes), 8 2000D's and 14 batts. The truck weight about 3,200 lbs. stock but with all the equipment about 9,000 no concrete just a lot of wood, bondo and resin. I use to drive about 65 mph on an average.

But guys don't forget I crash the truck going to NOPI that year.... :(

The truck is alive now ;)

PLEASE i have yet to see anyone even close to big bobs ss van---not only is it amoung the loudest ones, it is just as heavy as most all...and the miles he travels on average is twice that of the competion and he drives it every mile of the way(oh yeah i forgot about the 225 mi per tank gas mileage) if you want to compete you'll do almost anything.

If I am reading the post correctly, it talks about concrete in SS vehicles. So that is why I stated what ours did. I believe that Bob doesnt have any concrete. Please correct me if I am misinformed.

I drove my Blazer all year last year. It didnt have any concrete but plenty of batteries, wood, amps, and speakers. One of the drives was the 1700 mile round trip to IASCA finals in Kentucky and another 8 hour drive to get the rest of my points in Alabama and NW Florida. It was scary none the least getting it through the mountains. I would not say safe by any means though.

For some reason my 1958 VW van always had the reputation of being filled with concrete... but it wasnt... Maybe it was because it only did 50mph everywhere!!! Probably a safe speed having the original 40 year old brakes and all.
did around 5000 miles a year to shows etc, including the European finals each year, which was usually well over 500 mile+ trip.

Here is a real old pic when it used to run 8 strokers smile.gif

Yes Mr. Yukon that is my van. Everyone has their opinions and I'm not afraid to voice mine. My van speaks for itself many people have seen/heard it. As for safety I have as you can see a 1988 e 350 with snow plow front coils and extra leafs, trailmaster shocks, brand new top of the line brakes all around, new Michelin 10 ply all terrains along with a new 351 efi motor a built c6 trans with kevlar bands and a stall convertor a new driveshaft with super h.d. u joints and a completly re done dana 60 rear end any other questions ?

Anyways anyone who knows me knows I don't care about ultimate SPL see sig what I do care about is having fun and playing music at levels most people haven't heard with a big emphasis on quality like Oki and a few others so hate if you want to thats your call but I choose to help db drag in ways a few of you apparently don't understand.

And Riley(s), nothing personal but I just don't like your attitude(s) there is more to db drag than pure #'s not to discount the big #'s they rock but there is more to it than just being loud on the meter. Alma, Oki, and a few others know what I mean so in closing like I said nothing personal just doing what I can to put a positive spin on the sport and if you or your buds don't like it... so what I don't care I have more important things to worry about.

Sorry for the long post.

Give it a rest, good lord. I think he knows more about his van than you do. Stick to passing judgement on things you know about first hand that should keep you busy enough.
