I had a 1 amp 2 sub install then i got another amp and now i get those dreaded popping sounds. With one amp i got nice hard base and 148.8db. Box is tuned to 37hz. A hardcore spl competitor reckons my subs are going past emax and poppng out of there "groove", the pop is when they return and hit the "lip" of the groove. Specs: 2x12" pioneer 121spl subs, rated at 750W rms and 2x1500W rms amps with 200amp anl fuses on each one plus 2xbrand new 700amp(cca) dry cells. JVC dvd headunit, Bass Maximiser and parametric equaliser. Box is 4 cubes with no center baffle and is made of 16 millimeter mdf. HELP...What can i do to reduce the current xmax...subs will obviously have a reduced lifspan.

IF and i seriously mean IF your subs voice coil is jumping the gap out of the magnetic feild, you would not have an amp or subs. That would cause a short in and fry something. What your hearing is the voice coils bottoming out on the magnet. Something isnt right but I cant think of what it might be at this time, ill think about it.

try turning the amps down.... youre running twice the power now and im willing to bet bolth amps are set the same as when you only had one..you cant throw that much power to those subs and not expect them to pop, simply turn down the gains and like said above mess with the crossovers, and filters.... p.s. make sure your bass boost is not all the way up if you have one.

had the subsonic set as high as 50 hz, bass boost off, bass maximiser off, still pops. Busy with winisd and 2 boxes for spl and sq. SQ box plays down to 36hz and according to winisd, it will start to unload below that, above 36 hz xmax is lower than the spec for the subs say it is with 3000Wrms specified. SPL box tuned to 57 hz and will unload below 46hz, Xmax is also within sub spec. Now i just hope that the latest winisdalpha specs are correct.

its quite simple, too much excursion means too much power, turn it down
