ok i hooked up a new amp in a car.ran all new wires.amp powered up but then went into protect.unplugged the rca's and the amp protect went off.ran another set of rca's same thing.then i ran rca's out of another car into this car and the amp worked fine.so i ran the rca's out of the car im working on into the rce doner car and the amp in it works fine.so then i pulled the amp out and installed it into the car that was just using the rca's from and it did the same as it did in the other car.is there anybody that can help me with this?

Ground the two car together and it should mess up too!Problem with the amp. Something in the ront end section of the amp leaking to ground. If th amp is "NEW" ask that it be exchanged.

shorting the input of the amp to ground wont cause the amp to go into protect.

I dont know what the problem could be.

what gear?

Sounds like the preamp section of your amp is toast. Had the same thing happen to me on a Sony and a Coustic amp, both times preamp section had problems.
