Just wrapped up an install in a nissan 300 zx last night. He had an older clarian dedck in there, and we swapped for a pioneer 8600 mp. We also added a sub rca to his five channel amp, and connected the sub. Problem is, now we have alternator whine, very low, but in quiet passages, very noticable. I am looking for a quick fix, but am wondering if anyone has any ideas where to start. I know about a ground loop isolator, but don't know where to get one, or where to install it. Thanks in advance, mike.

Try to avoid ground isolator loops if possible. Locate the source of the noise by using a simple process of elimination(switching rca's?..) Now thatyou've added the sub, the amplifier is likely drawing more current, check to see if there's a proper ground return from the chassis to the battery negative post (make sure that whatever guage wire is used for positive, is the same as to the battery ground terminal from the vehicle chassis) Check to see if it's a lead acid type(refillable) battery, if so it may need to be topped up. Check HU ground to chassis, beef it up, it won't hurt. The battery acts as a natural noise filter, so if all else fails after you've used process of elimination.., I'd keep looking but some would do the ground loop isolator.
