Well, i hate to say it but my x-max finally quit playing after a year. I checked the amp and all the wiring, amp runs fine, nothing wrong with it. Pulled the sub from the box to make sure the connections where ok in it, and i looked on the under side of the cone and noticed the wires that are attached have broken some whut outta the goo that was once there that held them next to the cone.
Was wondering if this would cause my sub to stop working, and exactly how do i fix this?

umm.. it sounds like your sub is blown to me, might have been getting to much exscursion and was pulling on the wires.... take it to a local dealer and see what he says.

hmmm, how would i get too much excrsion? Its a 500WRMS sprk, running off an amp that runs tested poer t 337.2 from PG itself. If i reglue those pices will it make it back in working order?

what exact part broke? i would say use sodder, but that will/might weigh it down.. and glue you would have to make sure you have a good connection, cuzz glue aint a conductor...

right here the wires go from the contacts to the cone. on the cones surfacethe wires go INTO the cone, that is where they are ripped out, both of them. I believe it could be form too much excersion, but WHY would that happen. that sub is made to take it.

well like you just said, if the amp only benched 300 and some rms and its rated to take 500rms... i dont see ANY reason for it reching to much exscursion and pulling on the wires..... maby that amp is a bigger beast than you thought can you get to the wires to where it connects and try re-soddering them? otherwise youll have to let the profesionals do it..

OH, just had a thought, when you were playing it how low of a hz did you ever play on the sub? cuzz if your playing 20hz notes with that much power, then i cann why the wires ripped off.

naw, i wasnt playing anything at that low i dont think, i had it fixed by the local PG guys and its been running for a couple days, and BAM, stoped again, i pull the speaker out of the box and look at the flex wire, and i can pull it out of the cone and its burnt on the end, so im wondering, if somehow mabye the moisture is killing it? Its been real damp lately and this has happened only in the mourning, mabye i shouldnt bump when its cold out? I dunno. Does anyone know if you can burn a voice coil or mabye even the flex wire like that?

umm, cold weather is horible for car audio equipment, i always warm my stuff up first by playing it at moderate volumes, its it 20 degrees outside and you play full bore, it will probly just lead to more problem, like in your case, but you say its burnt at the end? that doesnt sound like cold weather to me.... did you buy the sub new or used? by chance did the owner before beat up on it pretty hard?

Well, took it back to the shop, they said it shouldnt break again (i guess the kid who fixed it dint fix it right (double yay for them)). They dint charge me so thats a plus, and it actualy hasnt broken yet. Then again im thinkin about gettin a new Phoenix Gold Titanium w/ those liquid core voice coils .
