I just got my new subs installed 3 days ago. I have 2 12" Punch XLC's powered by a CFA202. The gain is a little less than half way up and when I play a bass cd, about 30-50 seconds into a particular song the amp will just shut off. It doesn't feel really hot or anything it just shuts off. I was wondering what kinds of things to check in my wiring before I go back to the shop and get them to fix it. If it matters the subs are 8 ohm wired to a 4 ohm load. Would it matter that I have one RCA split for two amps? Thanks for any help.

More than likely your Battery and alternator cannot keep up with the higher current demanded by the amplifier, and when the battery's voltage drops below 11.7 Volts, the amplifier will shut down. I would suggest a .5 farad stiffening capacitor next to the amplifier. As for the wiring configuration and the subwoofer's impedance, it is all perfectly good.
Also make sure you have a proper guage ground wire (same size as power) under the hood, from the chassis of the car to the negative of the battery.

WOuldn't that mean that my lights would dim when the bass hits? I have no problem with that and my volt meter is barely moving. I do also have another amp in the system and it keeps on playing when the crossfire shuts down.

Your headlights will typically dim if the voltage falls below 11 or 10 Volts, and if your battery was low. Check the voltage at the battery with a voltmeter, next test it at the amplifier, notice it's less at the amplifier? That's called a voltage drop, lost in the length and guage of wire's resistance. Did you check to see if a GROUND wire was added to the battery's Negative to the car's chassis?
