I recently had my rockford power 250.2 stolen, and my insurance company replaced it with a JL AUDIO 250/1 Mono sub amp. The sub i am using is a Kicker Solobaric 10" (the old round type). I'm running 4guage power/ground, a twisted pair rca cable, A sony cdx-ca720x with the 5.5v pre out. I could turn up the music as loud as i wanted with the rockford amp, but the jl amp cuts out at about 1/4 volume, i can hear a faint distortion in the sub before it cuts out. I'm wondering if the amp has too much power for the sub i'm running? what do you guys think?

whut you should do is drop the gains on your amp to 0, turn your deck up to the level that you listen to it at regularly, while its playing go back to your amp and adjust the gains to play crisp with no distrortion.
