Hey my brother shorted out my cd player, and now the outputs dont' work, but the preout still does. I don't want to spend $$ to fix it, so I was wondering if anyone knew if maybe the transistor would be blown, so I could swap that out and get a replacement and put it in and go. Option #2 would be to just say screw it and buy an amp for powering the mids/highs, which would sound better anyway.

Sounds like you may have killed the IC that does the amplification, I think there are probably two of them, but maybe only one. The problem is findig a replacement, since they will be house numbered and not show the true manufacturer. It would be cheaper and better in my opinion to find a used 25X4 or 50x4 amp and use that.

if you're good at soldering or know someone who is, check out pioneer's parts distributor (www.pacparts.com) and you can buy the IC chip yourself.
