Dear Folks, I have an alternator whine in a Kenwood radio when in the am mode. I have checked all the grounds and they seem to be ok. The radio is in a 2001 Holiday Rambler Ambassador diesel motor home. Can you supply a specific schematic for the antenna trap or other fix? Thanks, Leo

Hi Leo, sounds like the Kenwood unit is picking up radiated noise from a wire which is too close to the unit itself. As process of elimination, see if the noise exists while the radio is removed from the dash(still connected), if not, then the unit is picking up radiated noise from a wiring harness which may be too close to the unit. If the noise still exists when the unit is out, then the antenna wire is picking up noise from the same scenario, or the antenna ground is poor. Try a capacitor filter(you can get one from any auto parts store) to try and filter the noise from the engine. Also, noise can also be a hint of a weak battery(the battery is the best noise filter in your vehicle), if it's a lead acid type, it may need filling.
