I am going to be installing a Pioneer headunit in one of my boss's cars (the '93 Escort) and I was just curious if there is anything special that I need to know about taking off the dash. Does anyone know of a place to get detailed instructions for specific cars for headunit installs? Kinda like what Crutchfield sends out, but an online version instead. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since it is a ford it has 2 holes on each side, you cant get the tool from walmart to pull it out, like 2 or 3 dollars, push each side in till it clicks and push out and pull out, the factory unit should pull right out, you do not have to take any part of the dash off

its a piece of cake, i drive a 96 (same body style), use the din tools to slide the old one out, wire the new one in.
if its a premium sound vehicle, you have a facory amp you can either integrate or bypass, your choice..
the amp is below the center console, which can be removed by the six screws, three on each side of the console.
then the amp just slides out.
thats all there is to it.

Thanks guys. As soon as you mentioned the DIN pins that you have to use to pull out the HU it all came back to me from when I installed a HU in my friends Probe. Would those same DIN pins I used in the Probe work for the Escort?
Thanks again.

Yeah it just pulls out and if you take the cassette tray out underneath it's easier to do wiring then put it back in.If you want to get a bit more technical u can take the middle air vents out and put a DSP display in I have also took the cointray out in mine and put a small moniter in there.
