I've got this problem where on low volumes, the sub distorts the bass.. i.e. it is playing what the speakers are playing but it sounds very crackly and muffled. Once the volume is turned up it's fine.

I've got a Pioneer P9100 headunit, Rockford 250.2 amp and Rockford RFD2112 12" sub (sealed). Do these subs have issues with low volumes?

If the sub tends to put off a scratchy sound at low levels, then the voice coil is rubbing the pole piece or top plate of the motor structure. This sound will be masked when you turn the volume up, but the sub is on borrowed time, eventually the VC will short or open, giving you a useless speaker.

Yeah, the filter is on at 80Hz. I think it might be a faulty sub.
