I have a clarion head unit and a clarion 5100 EQ..

I've noticed that every time I connect the subwoofer output of my eq theres a really high pitched squealing sound coming from my subs..
why is it only when I do this and how would I fix it?

thanks a lot shane..

You may have a ground loop in your eq or getting alternator or ignition noise in through the power lead. Also, check you RCA connections and the power turn on lead between the radio and the eq. Try hooking it up just to your deck, any noise? Now try hooking the component/co-axial amp up to the eq. Any problems? You wont get a lot of sound, but try connecting the sub amp's RCA/RFs up to the EQ's co-axial output (hi-pass). Noise still exist? Same with co-axial amp and sub out on eq. Does the co-axial have noise in it now? The sub out may be bad too. Work your way back and forth through your equipment trying to eliminate all of the possibilities. If the problem still exists, then go to your dealer/installer (if purchased over the net, grovel first, then they may help .)

Right now I have the low pass set at 50 and the high pass set at 80

I'm not sure but I think it's the processor that has a problem..
I bought it at Clarion Car Audio in Clarion Pa.. Cool name huh?
Ya I'll check everything over and then try eliminating the sound by disconnecting amps and processor until the noise is gone..
But if that doesn't work I'll have go get it serviced.
and if anyone has any ides please reply..
thanks a lot shane..

ya It's a ground loop in the right side subwoofer output of my 5100eq.
the warrenty is already up on the unit just about 3 months ago..

I checked the rca cables and they're all good..

Then I took the right side subwoofer output and pluged it into the right side of the rear output that I wasn't really using at the moment and the sound went away but only the left sub was playing low notes the right was playing full range, or whatever the rear is set up for..

Does anyone know how I would fix this myself?
without having to pay to have clarion fix it because the warrenty is up?

It's not a bad rca cable either I checked that..

would I have to check the solder connection on the right channel of the subwoofer output and make sure it's alright?

It seems like its that channel because if I take that one side out the sound is still there and if I plug it in and the sound is still there..

If I do it with any other channel like that if I unplug one it makes that noise but If I plug it back in it goes away.

You can pull it apart and check the obvious things -- solder joints on the RCA jacks, broken circuit board, that sort of stuff. Unless you're well versed in electronics though, I wouldn't delve /too/ deep.

If you're lucky, you've just got a broken solder at the jack...

If you're not that lucky, check into local electronics repair places before you send it back to Clarion. They might give you a better deal, and likely will have a quicker turn-around time.
