I just installed my system with a couple of friends today. I havent quite finished my box but we just wanted to make sure everything works. We got everything hooked up and and it sounded pretty good. Then, after a couple of songs, my amp started to cut off and go into protection mode. I have 2 12" Audiobahns and a 400 watt Autotek amp. What i want to know is why would it be cutting off? Me and my friend dont think that a 400 watt amp can draw that much from my battery. We also speculate that the problem lies with the way our other friend hooked my amp up. Please, if anybody has any idea about what would cause this, give me some suggestions. They would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the amps power ground is making a really good connection. Where the wire is screwed to ground, grind or sand off the paint for a good electrical connection. Check the dc resistance of the speakers at the amp with an ohm meter with the amp off if yu have a meter. Make sure the amp has proper cooling. That should take care of the problem.

I want to add to the question. right now we have the subs(DVC) 1rst sub-Positive of one voice coil hooked up to the other positive of the other voice coil on the same sub. Same thing for the negative. 2nd sub-Same way on that sub. -Now we have ANOTHER wire running from the positive of one of the voice coils -Same way for the negative. So now we have one positive wire and one negative wire coming from both subs. -We tied the two positve wires together and the two negative wires together. -So now there is only one set of positives and one set of negatives going into the amp. the amp is bridge to two channels, but we are only using one channel. Is this safe for the amp. The amp says 1ohm stable. If this seems too complicated, i will try to explain better. thanx for the help

what impedance are the coils on the subs? If they are dual 4ohm, and you parallel all the coils you will have a 1ohm load. If they are dual 2ohm, then you have a .5ohm load, which may be too low for that amp.

Yeah, the amp is 1 ohm stable and it has been working fine for almost a week now. Im pretty sure the problem was with the way it was hooked up the first time. Anyway, it's all good now and thanks for the advice.
