It is made by JL. The subs are two 10w1, they fire toward each other, with a six inch port in the middle. It is not bad until I open my hatch. Does mine just suck, or are alot of bandpass boxes like this. Is there any way to fix it?

Aeroports. JL subs have crazy exursion therefor lots of air to move! You may try to round the edges of the ports with a file or something. Or just get aeroports

its not the compony, or the port. banpasses just plain suck! there loud, but too much hassle with em, and they give absolutely no spl. i had 3 12s in a banpass, i sold it quick.

Bandpasses don't suck, they are just hard to tune. Look at the puch power dvc 12 review in AS&S several months ago. Banpass was voted best of test including sealed and ported. Try facing the sub towards the port so the pole vent is in the sealed enclosure and doesn't leak noise through the port.

I liked my bp box. Hrm, 6 inch port, no Aeroports don't go to that size, in my knowledge, but that may have changed. You could also try to cross them over at 100 Hz and down, just a thought. Rounding the edges will probably be your best bet. Also, talk with your installer and see if they have any 6" rounded flanges that they use for those applications.
my 2 cents

Rockford Fosgate Aero ports you cannot get in six inches anymore, you could a while back. However, the company that makes aeroports, PNR, does make a six inch flange.
I'm pretty sure JL makes a 6" flexi-port too.

If anyone still cares about this topic, I have another idea as to the noise problem. It may not be "port noise" but rather the box has a leak somewhere and the sound of the leak is cooming through the port. I built a bandpass for a friend and it had what sounded like port noise. However, one of the screws on the plexi came loose. Once it was tightened the whistle went away. Double check all of your screws, just don't crack the plexi.
