i just replaced an alpine with a rockford(i installed both)...when i play the rockford there is a noise like the alternator, i used the same power, groung and speaker wires. both were 4 channel amps. why does the rockford make the noise in the same set up as the alpine, but with the alpine, there was no noise. is alpine that much better of an amp?

Hello,

It could be that the rockford references the RCA shield to ground (internally) which would give you loop area noise induction or
It could be that the power supply isolation is not looking so good.

There are several ways of testing for either but there's no need to test for it really. Just need to figure out how its entering the system.

Is this a brand new amp?

Is any part of the amp's chassis touching any metal in the car (including the mounting screws)?

i bought it new, but had it in my other car. it was mounted to an amp rack(MDF)in that car. there was no noise. the noise started when i removed the alpine and installed the rockford. i used all the same wiring, cables, etc. with the alpine there was no noise. thanks for the reply

My advise is to unmount the amp and put a towel underneath it then try it again.

You didn't mention if there are any other components in the system, processors, EQ's etc...

There are several ways of telling which way the noise is being introduces. But again I would unmount it and make sure no part of the amps chassis is touching metal.

Ahhhh ....

I'm going to send you an email with some trouble shooting steps.
