Ok, I've finally had the time to take my new toys out of the box and put them in my car... Well, ok, *I* didn't do it, paid someone to do the installation. =)

Here's the setup:
- Power Accoustic Fire & Ice 4 channel Amp (4X75)
- Polk MOMO 10" in a sealed box (ok, ok, I know, a ****ty amp for a nice sub but I got
the sub for a really good deal AFTER I bought the amp).
- Pioneer 9X9 (TS6999.. the 3 way one with horn compression).
- the door speakers in the front is still stock.

Right now, channel 1 & 2 goes to the 6X9's. Channel 3 and 4 is bridged to goto the sub.

Here's my question... after the installation was done, I tested the system and noticed that the front speakers (in the doors) was totally silent. The guy at the shop told me, "well of course.. nothing is powering
them now". ???!? I thought the head unit (still stock) would be able to CONTINUE powering the front speakers just like BEFORE the amp was installed.

The guy gave me some round-about answer and I was in a hurry to get out of there (late for an appointment) so I didn't grill him.

Then he said "well, if you want some sound from the front speakers I could turn down the gain on the back".

Now I am thoroughly confused. So WHAT is powering the front now? Can anyone explain all this to me?

As for the sound quality... I am not 100% satisfied. The bass is so overpowering that I don't hear my mids and highs as well as before... (I listen to mostly house music... NO rap!) Also, the front speakers sound ****ty. (Worse than before the installation)
I don't know a whole lot about imaging but I sure know that I am not getting a lot of that "surround sound" feeling.

I'm kindda dissapointed... What do you guys think I should do? I'm thinking I'll spend another hundred bucks or so to replace the front speakers and then spend another couple of hundred to buy a second amp to power the sub... Gawd.... I'm going broke!

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers,
HondaGurl

That guy who did you installation is an idiot. I'm pretty sure everyone will agree with me on that one.

He should have left the stock amp on the front speakers so they should still play. I don't know about that "well, if you want some sound from the front speakers I could turn down the gain on the back" comment is about, unless he means that he turned the gains up so damn high on the 6x9s that when the front speakers are barely getting a trickle of signal, the 6x9 are busy blasting away. For the overpowering bass, it's a matter of tuning your amp. if there's bass boost on it, turn it down. and set the gains at a reasonable level. My guess is he didn't turn the sub down when he turned the 6x9s down so the sub is still playing madly when everything else ought to be a normal volumes. Well, hope that helped. Somebody else throw in their $.02, too cuz I'm not totally sure if I'm right. except on the part about the installer being an idiot

HondaGurl... what kind of HU do you have? The only reason I can think that you would not be hearing sound to your front speakers is because the "installer" ran the front & rear outputs from your HU to the amp's high level inputs. My $.02 worth... have the HU power your front speakers, buy a small crossover that accepts high-level inputs (which would be your rear channel from your HU) and split that signal between the 6x9's and your sub. A small crossover would not cost much and would make your systems sound a whole lot better. Oh... And make the retards who worked on your car install the crossover for FREE!

Well it definitely sounds like the morons who did the first install are not worthy of your next few hundred dollars. Dont go back to them. It sounds like they made errors in the install all the way around, and most of them have been listed already. You need to find someone you can trust (not just trying to get into your.......WALLET ) Have them go over the install and settings of the system. Tweak it out first before you start spending money trying to improve it.
