I just purchased a punch power 250.2(98 series) and i am pushing one punch 12" XLC. When i turn the volume up and hit low bass notes my amp cuts the power to the speakers off and on. At the upper end of the bass notes my speaker hits hard and tight without cutting out. I am getting a continous 15-14.5V at the amp. I have my stock headunit running to a PAC 35 high to low converter. My amp doesnt get hot it barely gets warm.

I am running 4 gauge wire to within 1 foot of my amp and have dual 8 gauge input. my ground is grounded to the floor of my trunk within 2 feet of the amp(also 4 gauge to dual 8 gauge).

I am just starting my system and i am still saving up for better equipment.

This really sounds like a voltage problem to me.

When you checked the voltage, did you check it when the system was playing hard, and when it was shutting off?

If not, check that, and get back to us.

this is confusing me

Ok i get 15V with car running and amp turned off. I get 14.3 at the lowest with amp turned up. my voltage doesnt drop when my speaker cuts off it goes up to 14.8-14.9
My voltage doesnt go below 13.5 with amp turned up, AC on max, and high beams on.

I am getting between .2-.8V on my RCA's

when i had my multimeter at the speaker outs it wasnt dependant on the voltage if the speaker would cut off. It was more dependent on the frequency with it cutting off more the lower it got.

I tried different RCA's
i tried a 30A fuse(blew it when it hit a hard bass note) put my 50A back in.

rewired my PAC hig-lo converters.

is there an easy way to bench test your amp with no function generator?

most like'y because the amp in your deck has such a lack of power, it can't produce those low notes, and when it does, it's probably clipping quite a bit....possibly even to the point where the unit sees a dc load and cuts the amp to protect itself.

buy yourself a cdplayer, with rca outs.

I have had this setup in my car now for almost a year but i had a punch 55.2 instead of the power 250.2 and it ran perfect it just wasnt loud enough. I unhooked my 55.2 and hooked my 250.2 up without changing anything and my power 250.2 started cutting out. I hooked my 55.2 back up and it plays good.

I bought the 250.2 from thezeb.com and am contemplating on whether to pay $18 to get it bench tested or just send it back.

hmmmm sounds like you may have a bad ground....check it and bolt it to bare metal....your 250.2 is using a helluva lot more power than your 55.2, but may not be getting that power, via bad ground.

Do i need an extra 4 gauge ground connection at the battery? I havnt added one yet.

Also can i feed high output to the RCA input of my amp as long as it stays under the 28V max input?

And when my car is cold it seems to start cutting out at a lower level.

My prob is slightly different.

i am using the 4volt preouts on my pioneer HU to my LD which bumps it up to 9.7volt.
4gauge power and ground. grounded to the frame on bare metal.

still cuts out sometimes. i just figure my amp is clipping cause im pushin it hard. its the only option left =) think im correct w/ this assumption?

i also have a similar problem....
i have dual 4 ohm sub wired at 2 ohms and vega 2650 to a pg 4150 (4 channel amp)
in bridged mode the amp is stable at 4 ohms (manual says so) but it works fine with 2 ohms to a limit....then it starts to turn on and off.... a strange thing is that the limit is diffrent every time.... i play a song and it starts freakin out...ant then a few minutes later i can play that same song at the same volume or higher without having the amp freakin out.... can u guys help me??
