well. i didn't get a chance to put in my brand new ppi 1farad 20volt cap.

i pulled it out of its little plastic box, and went to unscrew the top screws.
my luck.. they come out, but they take the insides w/ them. great. the screws are stripped, and i didn't even try to put them back in!?!

anyone know how to go about fixings this (besides sending it back). is there an easy way to redril them? like say... fill the hole up w/ solder and drill it out?

I can't help you with your problem but... don't you just hate when stupid things like that happen. It pisses me off. The manufacturer should either build a better product or be more consistant with manufacturing process (what I mean is tighter tolerances).

I have had this happen to me also. You cant solder the hole and redrill it, but you can get a quality tap and die set, and make the hole larger, and rethread it.

The only problem will be finding pretty new bolts to fit, you may have to use regular silver ones.

I don't know exactly how well it worked, but I fixed a cap w/ a stripped screw using this stuff I got at a hardware store that is made specifically used to repair stripped screws in wood, metal, plastic, etc. it comes in like 6 tiny 1x2 inch sheets that look kinda like a metal rasp (maybe more like a cheese grater). you cut a small strip off, stick it into the stripped hole, and screw the screw in. it grabs onto the walls and the screw. works pretty nicely in terms of holding the screw in. Duno how good it works in terms of surface contact cuz his lights still dim, but that's probably cuz he plays his music at deafening levels and integras have weak electrical systems. Oh, and the best part: the little cheese grater stuff costs like $2 for the pack

I'd send it back, you paid money for a product, and you may as well get what you paid for. I know not a whole lot can go wrong with a cap, but if you go drilling out the hole and something does go wrong, or the cap never worked in the first place (It can happen) then you have just voided your warranty.

I retapped it out to a bigger size.
went to sears and picked ups some screws to fit. they don't look that bad. just look like frankenstein's monster's neck =)

and it does work just fine, but my lights still dim to an extent. ugh. better sq though. odd, i have a 1farad cap and my amp is only puttin out 200watts so i don't see why the cap could get drained very easily.
it's figured 1000watts per 1farad, so i got like (estimate) 5 good pounds and the cap would be drained, right? but it does keep my batt good and charged (not directly of course) so my car starts easy.
just figured i'd give ya all an update.
oh and. .the cap looks so pretty in my trunk, BUT is it good to have a cap frost over in the extreme cold? =) i know heat is bad, but what about subzero temps? should i put a blanket on there at night or something?

Capacitors have a dielectric paste/liquid inside of them.. im sure its not good for them to be freezing/thawing, but there really isnt all that much you can do about it. I had a capacitor and it seemed to frost up quite a bit.
