I have a 1999 Ford ZX2 with the premium sound package (meaning there's a factory amp) and a phoenix gold 4 channel amp powering my front speakers and my sub while my rear speakers are powered by the factory amp. It sounds fine, except that when ever I turn the stereo on or off there is a loud popping noise. The shop where I got it amp and had it installed said there wasn't anything that I could do. Then I noticed in an article on here that they recommended too add a turn on delay module . How does this work? Where can I get one? Are there hard to install -I don't know all that much about installing car audio- would you recommend getting a shop to do it? Either way can someone tell me how to wire it up?
Thanks everyone, you can either post it here or email me @ sonic3d1@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Matt

What is probably happening is that they used switched power for the amp turn on. and the amp is on with the key..

I would get a DEI low volt trigger (the part number has slipped my mind ) and use it on the turn on lead, so that the amp comes on with the head, with a small delay.

It is fairly inexpensive and works well.

Thanks alot, I was wondering where I could get one of these? And about how much they'd be? Are they hard to install?
Thanks

Any Viper, Python, Hornet, etc. dealer can get them, and they are fairly easy to install. They do come with instructions also, i believe.

So if I were to go into one of the dealers what exactly would I ask for? And approx. what would they cost so I know if I'm getting ripped or not (a few shops in town have that tendency). Also if I were to get them to install it, how long would it take them? Thanks for all of your help

Just ask for the DEI low voltage trigger. I cant for the life of me remember the part number. The part is about 1" x 1" square, and about 3/4" thick, and should be less than 20 bucks, even if they are pricing high.

The are fairly easy to hook up, and take a couple of minutes to wire. the hardest part might be getting to the wiring you need.

Ok thanks again, my amp is under passenger seat, would this DEI low voltage trigger go under there too? What exactly does it do and how does it work??
Thanks,
matt

It will go at the factory deck wiring, and sense the low voltage trigger for the factory amp, and turn on the aftermarket amp at the same time. That way the amp isn't on any time the key is, but only when the head is actually turned on.

My problem isn't when I turn the car on, or put the key into the ignition, it is when I turn the stereo on, that is when I get the pop. When I turn it push the button to turn the stereo on it goes "pop". Will this part still fix it or is it a different problem?

The way they probably wired it, the amp comes on with the key, so when you turn the radio on, the amp is already on, and picking up the turn-on thump. With the low volt trigger, the amp will not come on until after you turn the deck on, and therefore, will not pick up any turn-on noise from the deck.

Will this also eliminate the pop when I turn the stereo off?

The part is DEI# 55000, Remote Power Adapter ... will help with turn-on pop, sometimes with turn-off but no guarantees on the latter, which is harder to eliminate. However, if they have the amps staying on when the deck is turned off, it should fix it - you can use a speaker wire from the stock HU (if it's high-powered) or stock amp, also the 5V remote out on some Fords will also trigger the adapter.

I was looking @ crutchfield.com, and they have a muting circuit, but its $49.95, and they say I need 2... This part isn't that expensive is it? So who makes this part? Any ideas who carries it on the web?
Thanks again for all of your help,
Matt
