I installed a Pioneer 8200R, 2 Hifonics amps, CDT components and IDQ10 subs. 4awg from the battery split to 8 into the amps. Upgraded the chassis ground to 4 awg. 8awg ground from amps. Stinger hyper series RCA's. When I turn the system on everything comes on OK(no pop). When I turn the system off(NOT ON) there is a popping sound in the speakers about 2 seconds after I shut off the HU or when I eject a CD.

-The grounds were sanded to bare metal. I have relocated them, no change.
-I relocated the power wires, no change.
-I disconnected the remote wire. I ran a 12v signal from the battery to the amp turn. I can manually turn the amp on and off with no pop.
-changed RCA's, no change
-Checked all speaker wiring. Wiring ohmed out fine and properly wired.
-Tuned the system with an o-scope. The pioneer had no clipping. Adjusted the gains on the amps till just before clipping. Gains are at 1/8 on the hi-mid amp and 1/4 on the sub amp.
-Took the HU back. Installed the new one, same problem.

People have suggested an inline anti-pop circuit. But the pop only happens when the system is powered down or a CD is changed. I don't see how one would one help with the power off pop. Am I wrong?

It was also suggested that I play with my DB/octave settings. Is it possible that this is the culprit?

Anyone else had this problem with a Pioneer HU?

What else can I try?

First answer I can suggest is from the rule of thumb I've heard and used. Always use the same size or one size larger ground no matter what you are grounding. Try that first. Also, try to make sure you are using the same ground point for the amps and chassis if it's in back. Sounds like there is a loop somewhere. Are you using both amps when the pop occurs, or have you tried just having one amp on and testing to see if pop occurs than? If not, post back..someone will come up with an idea.

Sorry the first paragraph was a little hard to follow. I have 4awg from the battery to the chassis and 4awg power running bask to a dist block at the amps. From the dist block I ran 8awg for power to the amps and 8awg from the amps to ground. I also have both amps grounded to the chassis in the same location. I took the ground location to bare metal with a sander.

I have disconnected one amp and the pop still occurs in the other. I can connect either amp independently and the pop will show up in the set of speakers attached to that amp.

If it were a ground loop problem, wouldn't there be noise all the time? Even with the lights on, air conditioner blasting, motor running, the system is crystal clear when playing. Again only time I get the pop is when I eject a CD or turn the system off.

Thanks for the reply AUDIO.
Anyone else have something to try? Your help is appreciated

which turns off first...the radio or the amp?...

If the radio cuts off first, the amp is still on, but no signal is going to it. What you may be hearing is the RCA's on the radio cutting off before the amp does.

Stinger makes a device to fix this alignment.

Now we're getting somewhere vegaS10. I checked out what you asked and the deck is shutting off before the amps. When the deck is shut off the 12V signal to the amp goes to 0V. The Hifonics amps then take about 3 seconds to fully power down. While the amps are shutting down there is a popping signal coming through the RCA's. That signal gets amplified right before the amp is fully off.

What is the device that stinger makes to prevent this? Something like a pop stopper?
