I've got a stroker 12 that's in the correct ported box and everything and is run off a MTX 2300x. Whenever I turn it up very loud, it makes nasty banging sounds, like it's bottoming out or getting too much power. This can't be right, because they're rated at like 1200 watts RMS, the amps putting out maybe 900. I bought the sub used, is there a chance it's messed up? Also, does anyone know what the little screw on the center pole thing is for? Could it have something to do with it? Thanks.

Josh

sounds like it's bottoming out to me. The little screw thing you refer to is for adjustment. You didnt' mention if the box is ported or anything, but you could be running the sub below the box resonance, causing it to become "unloaded" and just flap around violently. This is bad for any sub. Check with CV or someone who knows how to adjust the sub....
