when i turn up my system to high levels, i hear a hissing...i also hear it low at low levels when the music is quiet but still on track(since my HU has 0-bit Mute)...i might be rewiring many grounds to eliminate this noise...just wondering if this could be my case...

Ground loops dont have any sound to them. They ALLOW OTHER SOUNDS to enter the signal path due to voltage differentials.

It sounds to me like you are just hearing system noise in general. Can you hear the noise when the engine is off? if yes, then its probably not any kind of pickup up noise, but actually noise being generated by one or more of the components in your system.

You said you cant here it when the deck is muted because of the zero bit circuitry. If this is the case, the noise is more than likely from the deck. and you probably cant get rid of it except trying different deck (or buying a noise gate).

THe good news is that you may be able to lower the level so that you cant here it. What is the most you ever turn your deck up to, and what is the max it will go? If you don't turn it up all the way, you can lower the gains on the amps and use more volume knob, that will help the system noise. And YES, you will still get the same output(just at a different setting on the deck). Just make sure you don't go to low, and lose volume.

well...as of right now, it's set to 28/35...one person that installed my a/d/s/ amp says it can go up to 33 before the HU starts to distort the output...i have an Alpine CDA-7838..but when i test it and set the a/d/s/ at the lowest gain setting, and turn it up, it seems to start distorting around 29-30...definitely below 33...but...what you are saying is this?..turn the volume i use to set the gains up?..to say like 30-35? and then just lower the gains to match this output?...how much do noise gates run around?...would regrounding the deck to the firewall help this(chassis and unit ground)?...it gets kind of annoying cuz i can just barely hear it(enough to irritate me) while music is up..and when it gets quiet on track, it definitely annoys me cuz there is no other sound to mask it...blech...thanks for the quick response...

well...i found out my problem...it WAS a small ground loop...i picked up a grounding unit from Home Depot that electricians use....dang this thing is SOLID!...all copper and it uses a screw to press down 4 guage worth of wire and it looks like an L bracket...wired my amps to the grounding unit and mounted the unit...no more hiss....clean as a whistle now...sounds beautiful...

do0d...itz all good...i did try what you were talking about though...just for the heck of it ya know?...but the distortion at the higher levels bugs me...cuz i can hear it on the lowest gain level and i don't wanna boost that with my amps...just scares me...my precious pieces of equipment...hehehe ...thanks for helpin' out man..i appreciate it...but yeah...this is THE most solid ground i've seen...the thing's great... ...it was like 3 bucks...can't beat it...
