I have 2 12" RF HX2's and I think I might have blown them(?). I was using a POS crunch ds-4002 (it "says" 800watts rms). Today the amp went into protect after i'd been hearing weird stuff from the subs.. when i turned the music off, it sounded like someone blowing across a mic like wind- and it wasn't comming down the RCA's.
I probably shouldn't have had the gains up, the bassknob up, the volume up.. When i turn the amp on now, the subs push out of the box an inch and stay there- and don't retract until i cut the power.
What did I burn up, the subs or the amp? I just read the "Subs are frozen" thread and I havn't pulled the subs out of the box yet. I probably should do that to check the tinsel leads..
Any suggestions/comments/experiances would be nice

It's not the tinsel leads. You drove your amplifier into clipping, and it delivered a form of DC to the speaker, causing the voice coil to glow red hot, and burn the material on which it is wrapped. As the material burnt, it bubbled, and caused the speaker to get "stuck". Having burnt the voice coil, your amplifier reacted to a short circuit, and shut down. This was more then likely because the gains were adjusted. Keep in mind that if youe set the gains, thinking your'e going to get more power, your'e WRONG!

The other day, I hit the amp pretty hard with my hand and hit the switch later going down the road. To my surprise, bass started comming out Eli47: *shrug* Ever read Richard Clark's posts on carsound.com? He beleives clipping the amp/DC power doesn't make a difference to the sub. The subs are fine, the amp is just a little messed up. Its not as loud as it was and the crossover is broken. I'm might be looking at a PPI 21400 amp now..

BenG, have you had much experience with clipping? Once the woofer's coil starts to bubble, it's a dead duck. *shrug*I've also experienced intermittent connections in voice coils due to excessive heat and I've had my share of burnt voice coils to re-cone. I believe you may have misread the article, or misunderstood Richard Clark's point. Do keep in mind all these post are mere speculation, have you had the equipment checked by a tech yet?
