i have a freind that whenever he runs his system (one three hundred watt amp), mostly while driving, his car won't start after words. if he keeps his system unhooked from the battery no problems. Assuming he has everything installed correctly (i need to look at it myself)is most likly an altenator problem? or what should i look at slash test?

It could either be the battery or the alternator. If the battery is going bad, it may present more of a load on the alternator. The alternator might be able to keep up with this additional load, as long as the stereo is sucking up any of the valuable current. First, I would have the battery load tested(most auto parts stores could do this for you)because this is the easiest thing to check.

IF the battery checks out, it is more than likely your alternator. If it is going bad, It may still be able to charge some, but when the stereo is on drawing all this current, the battery is going to get the raw end of the deal.

I would definately recommend fixing it asap, because if the battery isn't already bad, it will be soon from being drained over and over. Same goes for the alternator, If the battery is bad, the alternator won't be able to take it forever, and will fail
