well its not going by that theory at all, the bigger the diameter of the port the longer it should be the smaller the diameter the shorter it should be, but i use this site to find my box tuning and ports..scroll down on the left menu till u get to basic enclosures and enter your formulas into the calculators... http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/
if that doesnt work add .com to the end i guess...

Longer port = lower tuning, so say you have a 4" port 6" long, and it's tuned too high, you can make it longer and it will tune lower. You should still design the box and port specifically for your sub though, or you can have problems.
I think that's what you needed right?

another place to find port tuning formulas is www.jlaudio.com in the tutorial section. they have the formulas for both your standard pvc and slot ports.
