Has anyone got any ideas to get rid of/suppress my alternator whine? It varies with the head-unit volume so I'm guessing it is a power-line problem rather than a ground loop problem. I have checked everything I can think of. I even tried installing a cap on the power-line from alternator to batteries, but that just turned the whine into a buzzing sound. It is definately being caused by the head-unit rather than amps, because when I unplug the RCA's from the amps the noise goes. My head-unit is the Panasonic 555 mini-disc player. Could it be a faulty head-unit (ie. blown ground tracks)? Please help.....

I am going to add my 2 cents in here because, I have just gone threw this. i had a head unit from clarion and I was very impressed with it but, since I had it installed I also had a very bad wine that followed the sound of the engine I tried everything. Then I went and borrowed a head unit at a local shop and hooked it up in place of my other head unit and the noise was gone. No caps, filters, supressers did any good. The head unit even sent enough noise threw the rca cables to blow subs. So in part I must say change the head unit. It worked for me.
