well. i finally got me a deck.
a pioneer 7000r. got a real good price on it.
went to hook it up and got the harness all hooked up. turn the key and nothing. my radio(stock) was working 10minutes before i had the new one hooked up.
i drive an '87 mercury cougar.....
all of the wires are right. one thing that i didn't hook up was a remote amp turnon wire that was stock in my car. there is no amp, but the wire is in the stock harness. think that may be used to turn on the radio itself?
aaarggg!!!!!! i sat and watched that box for two days and finally get a chance and it dont work!!!!!!!!!!

Does your dome light work at this moment? Could have blown the constant power fuse - too common!

If you have power on red and yellow and ground on black, it should at least turn on...

i blew a fuse. but thats still not the problem. i found another one =(
whenever i barely touch the dash it sounds exactly like an old dusty radio knob.. the *pffft* sounds.. im thinking there's some kind of grounding problems...
also. the radio stations get bad reception at times (bad to the point where theres nothing) and when it starts to do that it can't read cds.
also.. im not done yet. everything else works now that i replaced that fuse, BUT when i turn on my headlights everything else on my dash turns off. =( GRR!!!!!!!! BLASTED POS. if it don't work by tomorrow im gonna drop kick it

rewired a harness huh.. you kinda left that detail out earlier...

Sounds like it wasn't wired properly... ESP since touching soimething affected your H/U..

Good luck... and VERIFY absolutely correct wiring.. if you have to run a line (fused of course) directly from the battery to the MAIN power line and the MEMORY power line of the H/U and ground it properly to verify the H/U turns on...

Answer: IT'S WIRED WRONG! Sounds like you muffed up the dimmer and memory. IS your cd player settings whenever you turn off the car(if so, switch em!)? My bud hooked up his himself, and whenever he turned on his car, his parking lots when on....hehe.....BTW, I've seen pioneers with blue and white remote turn on's (Don't ask....I've seen both but it might have just been some funky shop install...) Good LUCK! And don't worry, you have to get it eventually!

my stock harness has 2power and like 3ground.
and the pioneer has a whole 1 of each.. GRR!
i guess i'll just keep blowing fuses and such. but i rigged it so that only my dash turns off when i turn my lights on, but i still got radio. lol.
i don't care how fast im going as long as i got my tunes

sounds like you have your deck grounded to your dash lights.. (when the lights are off in some cars it's ground.. and when on it's hot..) which is why you blow the fuse, this happened to a friend of mine.. easiest way is make your own ground to a metal part of the dash/whereever, reground the deck to ONLY that place, don't use any of the ground wires in the harness... replace the fuse and you should be in business..

couldve made things alot easier with two words: FUSE TESTER. Doesnt it suck when your problem couldve been alot easier with a 2 dollar piece of machinery
