my brand new Rockford Fosgate Power 200a1 mono amp cuts out when i turn my volume up to about 1/4 of what i normally listen to my music at. it's almost as if it's going into some sort of "protect" mode, but it's not even that loud!! it only cuts out for a split second.

please help!!

see my sig for components

this rockford amp is 100x1@4ohm, 200x1@2ohm. i've tried wiring my JL sub in series and parallel, and it still cuts out!

gain on the fosgate is all the way down. power bass is all the way down. but it is surprisingly loud!

the eclipse 5303 head unit is connected to alpine era-g320 processor w/ monster rca's. processor output to eclipse for interior speakers. processor sub output to fosgate 200a1. processor distributes remote wires. seperate 4-ga run to fosgate w/ a farad cap in-line (grounded to chassis). jl 10w3d2 sub has dual 2ohm voice coils. currently wired _parallel_.

note that the eclipse 5303R has 5v outputs. i'm not sure what the voltage output of the alpine processor is...probably 4v.

Sound like your power wiring loose. Try check voltage drop at power and ground input of the amp. If you still have problem i think you shoud check all the gain of all components and check all interconnect again.
hope this help.

ok, i checked dc voltage at the amp, and when it "cuts out" the voltage drops from around 11.5 to 10.25... it's pretty consistent.

this amp is hooked up on its own 4-ga to the battery, and right before the amp there's a farad cap. the cap's (-) terminal is grounded to chassis.

11.5VDC ?
Normal operating of sound system is 12-13VDC. you have got problem in power system.
Try check voltage at battery terminal when start your car (no accessories power up). It should be 13.5-14.4 VDC. then turn on your headlight and all accessories check voltage again shouldn't lower 12.6VDC. If your power system is good. Now you must check all connector in sound system ( battery terminal, fuse, cap terminal, and ground of rockford amp ) if not try by-pass your cap.

ok, that power rating was with the car off. my bad! but i would still expect the amplifier to perform with the car off, wouldn't you? my previous amp did, and it was an orion xtr275, which some would say is not as efficient!

14.42 volts at the +,- terminals on the amp with the car on. when the amp is running, even at low vol with gain at min., i get readings of 13-14 and sharp drops to 10.5 when the bass hits. this is when the amp clicks off. then it'll fire back up, 13-14, then drop to 10.5 and click off.

wtf?

Your voltage shouldn't drop that much with that amp. Most amps shut off when the voltage drops below a certain point, and it sounds like that might be what is happening, maybe the Orion is set to shut off at a lower voltage or not at all.
I would suggest measuring the voltage at the battery with the system on just like you did at the amp. That way you can find out if your whole electrical system is dropping that bad, or if you are getting the drop only at the amp.

Depending on the way you say you've wired the dual 2 ohm coils, you've been running the amp at 1 ohm. You say it cuts out, I'd guess that the amp just can't handle that load. Just trying to help.
