I recently tok my stereo out of my truck and installed into my friends Pontiac grand Prix('98).

After we got it all hooked up and after blowing about 4 fuses it finally worked. But sometimes when you hit the power on the "Stock" Receiver a low freq. hum occurs and it gets loud. VERY louad as if the car is going to blow up. Then if you hit the power to turn it back on it is fine. Also if you shut the ignition off it is fine too.

I have an older(silver/gold) Punch 200 running 2 12" DVCs and a 1 farad Capacitor.

I have the ground to the amp and the Cap going to the same grounding location(Right where a bolt comes up from the Shock in the trunk) I have a line converter also to convert to RCA. I have them spliced right into the rear speaker wires that come out of some kind of factory amp. I am pretty sure those are hooked up correct(- +) but it is possble that they are reversed.(Maybe that has something to do with it? I doubt it but ya never know)

When I had this installed in my truck it worked great and I had both Grounds going to the same spot too. The only difference is that I had an alpine deck and the new install has the factory.

If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Try turning your amp gains down. It sounds like you are overloading the input of the amp since the factory deck doesnt have pre-amp outs. Or turn the gain down on the line level adaptor if its adjustable.

Was that necessary? There is nothing wrong with my Punch amp. Everybody has their favorite amps and the older puch amps are great. I would not buy a newer one but to msg here like that is just rude.

you may want to also check for correct engine block to chasis ground and chasis to battery grounds are tight and good.
it may possibly also be related to the RCA cables.
good luck!
