Ive been battling this issue for almost a week now with not a whole lot of luck. Ive recently purchaced two Kenwood KFC-XW1225db. I originally had a kenwood amp.. not sure on the model of it. Also bought a kenwood deck. The subs are dual voice coil wired in parallel. They sound fine, but once I turn the volume up past about 17-18 they hit, crack then the amp goes into protect for about 5-10 seconds then comes back on then will do it again untill i turn down the volume. So I figured it was batt. voltage going too low as my lights were dimming bad. I now have an Optima red top batt., a cap. and also have a second battery, which should provide plenty of juice. Also have a chassis ground and a direct battery ground going to the cap/amp, even ran some extra chassis ground on the engine/trans. So i took the amp back and got an infinity 1600a, still does the same thing. Ive also tried a different deck with no success. Ive found that if I run one sub at a time I can go as loud as I want untill they distort with no issues, but as soon as I run both I have the same problem. Ive also tried to run the voice coils in series, but when I do I have almost no bass and the amp goes into protect mode alot sooner. At this point im at a loss... I havent actually check batt. volt. but my cap. has a digi display and i never see it go below 12.5 when the subs hit.
I guess what I want to know, is there something im forgeting about or doing wrong? I was thinking a shorted sub, as thats the only thing I havent tried two of, but then it should act up when im running just one sub...
Any help is appriciated!

I would check the impedance of the subs. If they are too low the amp may go in to protect, putting the voice coils in series should have fixed that but it is worth a try. also check every place were a wire goes in to something say a ring terminal if it is loosd it could cause that

upgrade the wire from the alt to battery and make sure to scrape all paint from where chassis ground is located and disregard the cap read out use a dvm and see where your at
