I have a SSX15 Treo Subwoofer powered by rockford fosgate Power series 2000 and the woofer keeps overheating after a short time. It smells like its burning. What could it be? the amp? could it be too much power for the woofer? Or the box? or volatage? What is your suggestion? this subwoofer is suppose to be able to hold 2500 watts and the amp is only putting out 2400 watts. I try not to overdrive the sub so that it stays clean. The box is 3.5 cubic feet. can anybody help me?

Thanks.

Well, it sounds like you could be heating up the coils pretty quickly, especially if you're playing music. On a burp, shouldn't be that bad, but if daily bumping, oh yeah, the coils. Also, what's it tuned to?

Could be tuning Hz of the box, cross over Hz. Those things have 4" coils, they should disapate(spell) heat very well. Could be clipping the amp?
Is the box ported? What is it tuned to?
How high does the volume of your deck go up to?
What volume do you play at? Are the gains set right? What is your crossover freq. set at?

Well the box is tuned to 35 Hz the size of the box is 3.5 cubic ft, and the deck is an Eclipse the volume goes up to 80. I usually play the volume at 65. The amps were set at a professional shop and I play less than a whole song and the woofer heats up.
What could cause the amp to clip?
Thank you for any help u can give me.

maybe you need a stronger charging system.
and maybe the box is too small. I know Treo's used to like very large boxes when ported...and that is a very small box for a 15" tuned so low.
The old 12SS subs liked about 5cf for daily tuning. and that's just a 12"

is the sub moving? what song?

cliping is caused by the input signal going in the amp is not the same as going out the amp, radio is too high or the amp is set to high, you don't have to turn the amp all the way up to make full power. if the amp is not cliping then it's the box, it also can be caused by playing your radio at 65 0r so and the amp is not cliping but over time the voltage can drop and that will cause the amp to clip, if your voltage drops turn it down a little bit and see if the sub is still hot.
