Anyone else have any "fluttering" noise problems through all speakers when using older (series VII) Hifonics amps?
I am running a very high end head unit/processor (premier ODR)connected by optical cable. And then using my old but very awesome Hifonics Zues (300x2) and Hifonics Olympus (110x4) amps.
When head unit is turned all the way down the speakers make fluttering noise. Of course it always makes the noise, you just have to trun it down to hear it. If I turn the gain down on the Zeus (sub amp) all noise goes away. When I turn the gain up even to 1/4 the fluttering starts through ALL speakers. The gain on the Olympus have no cause of the noise. But the noise goes through the speakers attached to the Olympus as well. The noise is there when the engine is on or off. It doesn't change pitch, just constant.
I am pretty experienced in car audio but this one has stumped me for years, and I do mean years. I've had these amps running hard for 10 years!!!Hifonics found no problem with either amp. I'm using 3 capacitors and everything is grounded to the same spot and well grounded.
Sorry this was a long description, but any ideas!
Karl

Sounds like your amps being so old wont support balanced signals that are found on most head units today.

OR, the ground on the RCA input jacks on the zeus has snapped, I had to repair that once on a clients zeus amp.

Try to insert a ground loop isolator at the zeus inputs, about 13 bucks from radio shack, see if that helps.
