My XXX 18" is making a weird light knocking noise whenever it plays, the thing is, I push on the cone all the way and there isn't any rubbing or anything. I played it free air and it makes A LOT of mechanical noise. Especially the slight knocking sound. It almost sounds like lead slap but I checked the leads and it's not them. I checked all the wiring and it's correct. Anybody have a somewhat similar experience??

Have a dmm or access to one? Check the coils and make sure they are reading right. What kind of knocking noise is it?

either the dustcap or the leads...im not 100% if they use the inner dustcap on the 18"s, but i know somepeople have had them come loose and make noise on the 10, 12, 15" models..

I've checked the dustcap, it's not loose. It's kind of hard to explain, it's a knocking noise but it's definitely not the sound you get when you bottom out a subwoofer. I know it's not the leads and I should probably check the coils.

Actually, the spider did have a slight tear in it but I put glue on it and did just fine. The glue was flexible and clear, it was called GOOP. Pretty strong stuff.

The dustcap is coming loose. This happened to my MT. Blast it until it starts to seperate.

I had the exact same problem. U have no dustcap so u will need to glue the entire cone on. Call re, i am not exactly sure how different it will be for you.

This XXX is the old version with the boob dust cap and 4 spoke basket. I don't know how soon I'll get it fixed because I'm going to mess around with 12s for a while in SPL. So yeah, I'll give it a looksy and hope that's the only problem with it. I might just take it off tonight.

It has nothing to do with the dustcap. :-/

With the glue on the spider it cannot excurt evenly causing the voice coil to rock in the gap. The coil smacks the pole peice.... etc

Recone time.
