i recently built a wall in my car and am driving 2 dd 15's with 4 earthquake ph5000d's when i would burp it i could hear noise out of the car but that didnt matter cause i was burping....well as things go i wanted to play music and damn i had a shi+ pot of noise had to turn the volume up to almost 20 just to pass the noise....i tried everyhting that i could think of....to no availe. that is when one of the members of my team suggested wrapping a wire around the neg on the rca and attaching it to the cars ground.low and behold 99% of the noise went away. Have any of you done this before and did it kill anything by doing it??????WTF???????

I've had to do this in a few cars I worked on. Did not hurt anything while having the drain wire connected, but installing better RCA's in some of those same vehicles kept the noise away without use of a drain wire.
Also, do you have your head unit grounded through the vehicle wiring harness? I've had to redo my ground in my car pulling it off of the wiring harness and directly grounding the wire to bare metal. Took away a significant portion of the noise and made the radio's display brighter.

I have had to return that exact unit 2 times with the same problem you described.

we sell alot of pioneer and we see them come back way to often for us to do this, the ground shield goes bad in the deck for the rcas, its a simple fix but just sucks when it happens. simple things like plugging the rcas in while the deck is on can cause it.

one of those things where if you put the wire on before you get the problem (as a precaution), you'll get horrible noise. so you wait for the deck to do it's thing and then use the wire.
a long time ago when i first encountered this, i went a few rounds with pioneer. first they denied anything wrong with their units and supposedly tested one's i sent back and told me they were good and i was the only one sending them back for this.
so i got the bad units back and still same thing. then they claim that it's because their H/U are designed to run with their amps and it's probably the amps we were using weren't designed to run with their rca ground system.
i thought that problem had been solved this year, but if other people are still having problems, i guess not.

I've shot holes in that theory because I've witnessed the same problem with someone using that same head unit with two Pioneer Premier amps and still the same obnoxious noise. In his it happens with the car on or off. Jumping RCA's from my car's head unit to his amps, there was no noise at all, car on or off.

i dont think its the deck, the problem stems from haveing the gain jacked up and it picking up more noise. i run a panasonic deck and i get the same thing.i turn down my gains and it goes away. the wire tells me you have a grounding issue with the rcas. by doing that (grounding the rcas sheild at the deck)your are eliminating a huge ground loop which is acting as an antenna. solved my problems many times.

gains up too much can pick up noise. but what we are discussing is an imfamous pioneer problem that occurs.
Mr.C- i told them the same thing. all they wanted to do is try and put the blame back on me and not fess up to their h/u having a problem.

yeah but what i was trying to say i guess is my panasonic does the same thing, its a grounding issue. some decks just tend to be more subseptable to it.

recently at a show at border motorsports, Ryan told me that the pioneer headunits distort the signal before you reach your volume. has anyone tested this with the pioneer headunits? he said he uses an o-scope......Unfortunately i am without an o-scope....and i use the pioneer headunit outboard for burping. with a cleaner signal i should get some increase in spl......right????any comments???

the pioneer radios have an internal ground that will burn out when your amp has a bad ground, the amp will try to ground itself through the shield of the rca wires & it will burn out this ground in the deck. i have seen this many times, the best way to fix this is to ground the shield of the rcas to the back of the head unit. this will not harm the amp or head unit.
