you guys don't know what you are talking about...all of the subs listed use the same size surround as a Shocker Extreme...except maybe the AWT's which I have never seen...anyway that sig series uses a way bigger surround then the regular extremes...so I would say the biggest isw either that sig series in the picture above, or a ECLIPSE TITANUIM

Or could it be that the shocker extreme uses the same surround as the rest of the subs.

these shocker guys shocker this shocker that, i was gonna buy a sig or a super, naw i'd rather get some DD's. i'll wait till they come out with a new sub so i can try it out.
the Awt has a larger surround than the Eclipse and much larger than...Cough..Extreams... Extreams have the same size surround as the 05x series audiobahn subs. i think they are about the same as the Res.eng hc line too.

yeah, but the sig series is the one I was talking about...like in the pic that guy posted...but if the AWT is bigger then the Eclipse it is probobly bigger then the sig series too...not that surround size really matters as far as SPL is concearned...DD has the smaller high roll surround and it is just as good as a fat surround (and in some cases better depending on the type of fat surround)

ok i change my point about shocker guys. you are the only guy that didn't argue that shocker are the best or what ever. i see that pic on the top...is that a sig? i've never seen the cone so i can't say anything about it. and you are 100% true about surround size doesn't matter as far as SPL is concerned. i saw something that a sig win a ex1-2 car did something like 171 or 172 very impressive

well really if you want the truth the BIGGEST surround is on the 34" Audiobahn sub...I am sure there is alot more foam in that thing then there is in any FAT surround 15

What's the advantage of having a big surround. Wouldn't this decrease the volume of air that the sub is capable of moving?

a large surround is supposed to help spl by having more excursion. A large surround is good up tp a certain point ive seen cases of 15" subs with the surface area of 10 and 12" subs. Im more partial to DD's "EROM" surrounds... lotta throw without cone area loss..

Thats what I was thinking but when I installed my AWT12 in it's first box my girls hair was moving from the air that was comming from the 2 4" ports

u were kinda wrong about the sub in the car it got second.....and it had only 2 super xtreme 15's in it. it did 173.1
i see people like my pic of the sig 15....yes...the surround on that speaker is prolly the biggest that i have seen.....

Take note that most SPL vehicles have subs that actually move very little compared to the amount of surround the subs in them have, especially when the vehicles are tuned and peak out at the resonance they are burped. Most manufactors put huge surround on their subs for the simple fact that it is the awe factor for the "normal" car audio customer to see a 15" sub with a 1.5-2" surround in a spec sized ported box play those 31-41 hz notes and just move like there is no tomorrow.

Yeah but keep this in mind Shockers have won alot of comps also and they probably have the smallest surround of all SPL subs. Kinda makes you wonder how important the size of the surround really needs to be to win
