I was thinking of getting a SUV which has a resonant frequency of about 70hz and 35hz so would an ABC box tunned to peak at both frequencies be better for spl?
Before you refresh please answer, even if you don't really know.

Sorry, didn't mean to ignore your efforts, just thought it was funny imagining Dukk's head swelling with pride every time his name was mentioned....

And 2much, I believe the box should be tuned lower than the resonant frequency of the vehicle, as for how much lower, maybe Dukk could tell you...

Geez - what the heck happened to this post? It exploded!!! My last posto n here was pages ago

For DropRanger and the dude with the DVC 12s: For any RF 12 I like to use 2.5 to 3cuft total net volume with a lower tuning to 30Hz (upper is 57). For a little more upper end you can go to 35Hz (and 68).

Keep in mind that this is a good but not supreme SPL box. It is hard to make them big (like a wall) since you have to be able to divide the chambers relatively precisely.

And yes - I am proud that this intriguing enclosure gets so much attention. I kinda coined the term 'ABC' box (although I for sure did not develop the box itself!) and it is kinda cool that on almost any audio forum if you mention an ABC, people know what you are talking about.

Quick - without checking back, why is it called ABC?

Aperiodic Bi-chamber.

So, you think I could get away with 2.5 cubic feet with the DVC 12's. I'd just given up on trying to fit 3 cubes each in my trunk (94 Civic). Maybe I'll have to go back to the drawing board and see what I can come up with, I'd really like to give this a try.

Hey Dukk,

I'm considering trying either a huge ABC(around 11 cubes), or a big 6th order bandpass of about the same size for my DD9015. I like the gain of the bandpass but I'm afraid it's gonna sound like ****(lower end of the passband is 38hz), which makes the ABC look pretty appealing. Also the low tuning(30hz) would make the higher tuning(57hz) come in with my resonant frequency of the car. What do you think of either setup? Drop me an email if you want.

Thanks

The DVC can work in 2.5net. 3cuft gives a little more bottom but 2.5 is fine.

That is a way big box dude. As long as the woofer works good in a big vented cabinet it should do well.

DD's site says anywhere from 3.0 cubes for the smallest ported enclosure up to 7.0 cubes for the "monster spl" enclosure. I don't in by any means have to have an 11 cube enclosure but the space is available if it is needed. I just don't know really where to start on box size. What would you start with in terms of size for one of these subs(DD9015)? From what I have gathered this design would be good for my sub because I want a really strong bottom end. I am putting Oz 250H's in my doors and 5 1/4 components in my kicks. I think they will provide very solid bass up front and nice midrange/midbass too, so may as well have some good loud low frequency output to add a little power to the setup.

Thanks

Hey Dukk,

I'm doing a clamshell isobaric ABC box, but the problem I'm having is that I'm going to do 1 and 0.5 cu ft (normal box size for one ported is 3 cu ft), but the port size if "freaking huge." I mean for 3 inch ports, it s like almost 2 feet long. Then trying to fit 3 of those in a 1.5 cu ft box is a severe problem. Could I get by with 2 or even 1.5 inch ports? I would use elbows (like 2 90s to give a bend, on up and one back down), but the exact calculation of tuning frequency with those is hard. Any ideas, OTHER than the JL flex port (I hate that and it doesn't work like it should).
