You ABC box fanatics might be interested to know that I'm currently preparing ABC box model in next upcoming WinISD release. Unfortunately I can't promise when it will be ready for release, there are some issues with the UI, as it was recently reorganized.

For box/port calculations, try these:

Sweet. I had a set of calculations to throw into excel to go from a 2 vent ported box to an ABC, but I have NO idea where it went....

After reading through all 31 pages, I am still trying to figure out if this type of box works well with any sub, or are there certain subs that shouldn't be used in a box like this? I am tempted to build one for my TDX, as long as I can be reassured it will be louder and play lower than the Diamond spec'ed box...

any woofer that performs well in a simple 3rd order vented, will do fine in a DCR..

in fact, throw limited designs do especially well, as the dual passbands limit over excursion somewhat..

it probably won't be louder peak v/s peak over a ported box, but you'll be louder over a larger bandwidth..

Well what the hell might as well bring it back up. Its been six months since the last post. Also I am planning on making one for 2 DD9518 for my 96 caravan just to see what it does. Any suggestions on size? They seem to like 5 Cu.Ft. each.

I don't understand why this thread isn't a sticky? I wish I could give you a solid answer to your question but based off my past experience you gonna need around 2.5CuFt just for the unloaded chamber if you stick with your 5CuFt box. So your probably gonna be looking at around 8.5 to 9CuFt per sub without displacement figured in.
I plan on doing another one of these boxes this summer to. I just haven't decided if I was gonna do it for one 18 SoloX or a pair of FI Q's. I'm still trying to figure out which amp(s) I'm gonna go with.

I'm using 5" x 5" slot plots. They're a little harder to build but you can use them.

what do you mean, 5" by 5" slot ports
a port has to have three dimensions....and if the mouth surface dimensions are 5" by 5" with some length, why would you use the box wall as a portwall? you either have a tiny box or long port i would assume, in which case i'd suggest a larger area port.
curious on this one.

it's a 5.25 cubes 5" X 5" X ? forget the exact dimension the box was orignally for my '98 Mustang now I have it in the semi. The box was built in '02 so I forget the exact dimensions. I used slot ports because woodworking is easier for me and I had plenty of wood scraps lying around. I have 4 12" in a v-shaped bandpass box in Mustang now.

up this thread from a newbie.

i have a jl 12w3v2-dual 2ohms (FS=24.3hz, QES=0.475, QTS=0.449). Will this sub a good candidate for an ABC box. the manual recommended 1.75 cuft for vented box, will i use it for the sub chamber and add 1/2 of that for the empty chamber? can i use the port specs on their manual for all the 3 ports?

or

i will use 1.75 as the total net internal volume and divide it by 1/3, 2/3?

appreciate your great help. thanks

should be a great candidate. Those JL's will handle a good 500+rms daily, but the mechanical excursion limits then for low frequency ported use without cranking a subsonic filter up really high. This type of box will help you gain spl on the low frequencies at high power,
but it will reduce the risk of throwing your speakers out so far, that they miss the gap and and smash the bobbin on the topplate...resulting in a dead woofer.
I did this to many JL subs at local competitions in long cars back in the late 90's and early 2001.

was one or more of the boxwalls acting as one or more of the walls for the port?
