chris,

an ABC box has a total of 3 ports.... and all 3 ports must be the same size....

with that said, a 4" round port is about 12 square inches.... so to make that rectangle, it would need to be 4"x 3" wide....

make them all the same length.... the size of your chambers are good.

hope this helps,

I don't know your friend bryan666999. I've never even heard of zigs machine shop. The more popular machine shops here are Francis Engineering, Mustapha's Engineering and Mack Rampersad. As for the race cars, I haven't allocated time to the tracks yet, but the most popular car here is the SKF Lancer, it's supposed to be among the fastest 4 cylinder cars in the world if not the fastest.

Ok, since no seems to be able to help me out with the links. Can any of you answer these questions: 1. Is WinISD a good enclosure design program? 2. When I get a box volume from WinISD does that include the allowance for the port displacement and the subwoofer displacement? 3. If I want to build an ABC box, do I use WinISD to design an enclosure with 2 ports tuned to whatever frequency I want and then add another chamber to that box exactly half the size of the one I got from WinISD or do I use half the volume of the WinISD enclosure - 1 port volume. I hope you can understand what I'm asking.

yes

no, that would be how much net airspace the sub needs to 'see'

yes, but i would suggest tuning just above 30Hz

yes, i understand

all that port is for is to connect the 2 chambers.
it has to be tuned to the same frequency to make it work right....

What if I were to fire a single 10 inch sub down and fire the 2 ports through the rear deck? Would this have any adverse effects? I don't really want to point the sub rearwards. Also, if that doesn't work, would point the sub up or to the front be better (ports still going through the rear deck)?

Also, does it matter if acoustically transparent material covers the mouth of the port? I really don't want to have to make a new rear deck or cut holes in it. I was planning on firing through the old 6x8 speaker holes.

Does it matter how far apart the 2 ports are on the outside of the enclosure? Could they be at opposite ends with the sub in between?

Any recomendations for a JL 10w1 sub? Would one JL 10w1 with 150 watts in the ABC enclosure be better than 2 JL 10w1s with 150 watts in a sealed enclosure (possibly downfiring)?

Oh yeah, and how high does the box go in freqency response? I am going to be running 6.5s in the doors. I really prefer SQ to all out SPL, but since I don't plan on competing I can give up a few points on SQ

Sorry for all the questions, but I was all ready to put the 2 10w1s in the spare tire well before this came up. Using 1 sub would keep me from having to purchase another amp.

Thanks,
Eric

Thanks MrFlamboyant. I just have some other questions if you don't mind. If I use WinISD to get a box volume for a JBL LC-S1250w sub, for a closed enclosure I get 1.072 cubes tuned to about 57Hz, if on the other hand I choose a vented box, I get 1.984 cubes tuned at about 36Hz with 1 4" port about 12" long. So what you are saying is that for the closed box I still have to make allowances for the subwoofer displacement (Xmax*Vas) and that the extra 0.912 cubes for the vented box does not include the port displacement? I may have another question depending on the answer to this one. I hope you don't mind me asking so much.

Hey bass_mechanic. If you plan on building more of these babies, maybe you hsould try my abc design proram and see if it's any good for in-car. It was designed for home but it gives flat response.

The link is www.geocities.com/alainprice/

or http://www.geocities.com/alainprice/spkrdsgn.zip

the first one has a crude ass pic.

I have another abc design program at home that can (kinda) evaluate a design(by suggesting the recommended design). It will be uploaded eventually, available by e-mail request.

i tried your program
it doesn't figure port length right
for a 5 cube abc it says to make the ports 13 inches. i asked mr. flamboyant if he thought it was right. he used winisd and it gave him 15 inches. now i would trust what he said since he has made 40+ of those boxes.

coo, but something I forgot to neglect is my program accounts for a bit of lining on the walls.

BTW, 15" versus 13" for a (what I consider) trial and error box is pretty close.

yes, you are correct.... the 1.9 cubic feet needs to be NET aispace (AFTER port and sub displacements)...

for which sub are you making this box??

I believe he's using the JBL LC-S1250w.

No specs to give, sorry.
