With two JL Audio W6's which are 6 ohm dual voice coil subs;

If I wire the coils in series, and the subs in parallel, how many ohms will my amp see in mono?

By the way, How are these subs for SQ?

Your amp will see 6 ohms if you wire them in that way. I really like the 10w6's for sq, the 12's don't sound too great to me, and I've never really heard the 15's or 18's.

The W6's are 300 rms, and my amp is a RF power 500a2. How many watts would my amp push at 6 ohms? Its supposed to push 500 into 4 ohms, isn't it gonna be less at 6 omhs?

BTW, Devastator have you heard the W3's? Are they good for SQ?

hmm kinda got lost in that but I think this is what you got dual 6ohm coils wired in series "12ohms" then you said wire the sub(s)"taking you got 2 subs" and wire them in parellel giving you a 6ohm load. then bridge it for a 3ohm load.right right right?

Yep doughboy, I am interested in two 12" subs.

so if I wire the voice coils of each sub in series, and wire the subs in parallel, my amp will see 3 ohms in mono? (1.5 ohms to each channel?)

NO! That would still only be a 6 ohm mono load. (3 ohms each channel)each voice coil on a w6 is 6 ohms, so by series the vc's you would have 2 - 12 ohm subs. paralell those 2 subs and you have 6 ohm mono. 500a2 @ 6 ohm mono= about 375 watts. 187.5 to each sub.

Right on SPL2000 !!!!!

I can't believe people are still confused by wiring loads. Forget all that stuff about the amp seeing half the load. An amp see's what you give it. A six ohm load on a bridged amp is a six ohm load. People get confused becaused half the load is seen by each channel. It's not rocket science....

I am not jumping on anyone I just wish people would get it right and stop confusing the newbies...

thanks guys, but I have another question.

What if I did the opposite? Wired the voice coils in parallel and the subs in series?

By the way, Are the W3's single voice coil or dual voice coil?

if you did the opposite(subs in parallel and subs in series) you would have the same load. it would be the 2 6 ohm coils in parallel which would be 3 ohms and two 3 ohm loads in series is 6 ohms.
for w3's there are availible in three different dual vc's (2,4,or 6)

If you plan on running 2 subs I would reccomend getting dual 4ohm voice coils. That way you can run either 4ohm mono or 2ohm sterio.

On JL audio's on-line tutorials they say specifically not to wire subs in series because it creates back EMF. It is okay to wire coils of the same sub in series because that is just how a higher impedance woofer would be wound any way. For more info check out www.JLaudio.com and then go to their tuorials. Hope this helps.
