Hi,

This is my first topic on this forum and i read a lot of great things here.

I read a lot of tips and tricks about adding more DB's with simple things but i think those tips are only great for the specific car that is used and not for every car.

I do not own a DB meter so its hard to check if i get more DB's and its hard to test for me.

I just want to ask if there are any tips for me to gain more DB

I own a Renault clio RS which is a very little car

 -

I own a Sinuslive monoblock from 3KW RMS at 2 ohm and this is coupled to 2x Resonant Engineering SX10 from 1000w rms per piece(dual 2 ohm)

Here is a picture of my enclosure:

 -

The enclosure is made of 1inch MDF arround and 2 inch top plate.

The enclosure is tuned to 57Hz because of the car resonance frequency

I am using 2 batteries(2x Sonnenschein 56Ah)
 -

My highest score is 146.8DB on the Termlab but this score was with my old enclosure didnt have the possibility to test with the new one.

So any tips for me?

Thanks!

Have you used a round port?

i used a slot port as you can see in the pictures above(or cant you see them?)

this day i did smoothen the port a bit more and closed the screw holes with polyester

the port is calculated for this box should making it bigger not make it worse?

im not sure how someone can help you with out knowing what your box size, port size, and tuning is also what your cars resonant frequency is, and thats only just the start, have you tried moving the box around, subs back, forwards, or sideways. you could try using 45 degree angles inside the box. adding or removing port length. but if you do these changes you need a mic, you need to test everything!

the only thing i know that will increase your slp no matter what car you have is sound deadener, increasing your current voltage (battery or voltage regulator maybe to 14 volts or 16 volts) and adding more runs of power wire. although no one can tell you how much you might gain from these, ive never heard of some one going down in spl from these mods regaurdless of vehicle type!

resonance req is 55-60hz so i tuned my box to 55hz and flared the port so i am arround 57hz.

i can not move the box because it fits perfectly in my small car as you can see at the pics above

box is 95 liters and my port is 12cm wide and 26,1cm long and 29cm deep.

tuned to 55Hz and flared.

Use polyester resin to paint the box inside!!!

The car peaks at 57 hz or is this the tuning freq of your box?

The way i see it you cannot feel a db gain or loss without a meter. unless it is over a hole db...

What is the nominal impedance you play?

Are you going to compete or just want to drive and pound?

thanks for the tip

the cars resonance req is between 55-60hz and my enclosure peaks at 57hz

My amplifier is 2 ohm stable and delivers 3000w rms and my subs are 2x2(1000w rms) ohm so i am playing at 2 ohm.

i want to do some competition but its a daily driver

OK...Try to tune the box lower atleast 4-5 Hz...the box should be tuned much lower than your car's peak freq...If i were you i would tune it to 40-42 Hz...If you want to play music you box freq is way too high...

Also you should take into account the Fs of the subs (from the T/S parameters...)Are these subs RE Audio?Normally the Fs is around 32Hz so you should fix the box close to that freq but that is just a general guide...Because of the nature of your car (small cabin high res freq...)40-42 hz is good for street bass and comps (bass race at least)

You can also lower the nominal impedance of the subs so that your amps can do more power, but don't go too low or you might destroy it Ask someone from SINUS if this amp can play at.5ohms...You can do this at comps where you need that extra power for a short period and for daily use keep it @ 2ohms to be safe...

okay, thanks for the info.

my old enclosure was tuned to 36Hz and that made 146,8Db

i am going to watch at sunday what score i will get now with the new box.

the subs are RE SX10's i dont think the Amp will do 0.5Ohm because its already a coupled monoblock(2 SLA1500 coupled together) so internally it already runs at 0.5ohm

The enclosure is designed with winisd so it should be ok for these subs.

If you play @ 2 ohms each amp sees 1 ohm.I have afriend here in greece and he uses the same amp...I will try to contact him and ask the potential of the amp.He runs an ORION HCCA 15" in a Pug 106

Box is way to big for SPL in this car.
A few years back we someone with the same car doing 149dB of 1200watts.
System was:
1 NSB 90 up front.
1 DD M1
2 x DD 2512 subs in around 100L with 1 6" aeroport.
Frequency was 59Hz I think.

But to know what really is louder, you need a termlab.

but these subs are 10 inch so my score isnt as bad i think?

other enclosure where i get 146,8Db from was also this big only tuned lower.

but what you say is that the Freq of 57Hz should be ok? maybe flare the port a bit more would get 59Hz

smaller box (about 1/2 the size of what you have now), 6" aero port (as it's easy to get the tuning bang on) tune to 40-45hz and work from there.

I have a clio with an 8" sub and 500watts doing 129.9 bassrace and thats tuned to 40hz [Smile]

Difference between 10" and 12" subs is only a few tenths of a dB and you are running a 3kw amp [Wink]
