I've been looking for a good shallow mount 12" that is reasonably priced. I have a JBL GTO7001 that I need to set up with a good pair of 12" subs, but I have a regular cab Colorado so space is really tight. The subs I have in there now have a fairly small magnet and a mounting depth of 6", so I know if I get subs that can actually handle this amp, the magnet is going to be bigger and probably won't fit. I'd also like to re-do the box with some room for the amp to breath and allow for xmax clearance behind the seats. Here's some pics of what I have going on.

Now before anyone says anything... Yes, it's made of particleboard-this used to be a dresser at one point in time; yes I did use silicone to seal it; yes that white thing on the one sub is my attempt to repair a torn cone; and yes these are 20 year old subs. This is a budget build until I can turn the wife over to the boom side. So far I have spent $85 between the amp and wiring; everything else was free. The subs are acoustic research subs from a pair of house cabinets; I have no idea what ohm they are the first time I checked my VOM said about 6.7ohms, now they read about 1.5ohm so who really knows.... I'd like to re-do the box in mdf properly and finish it with carpet or line-x, and shrink the depth a tad and make a recessed amp area as well as get rid of that notch for the jack. After making the box this way, i realized the way I have to mount it is going to prevent me from easily getting the jack out anyway (have to pull subs to get to the mounting bolts).
ANYWAY I need a pair of 12"s with a mounting depth of about 4" and a basket/magnet structure no greater than 7"dia that are either 4ohm SVC or 2ohm DVC so I can run at a total of 2ohm. Since this is a budget build, i'd like to keep it under $75/sub if possible. I found some Boss D12F's that would work perfect, but I have no idea how they perform at all. Last I knew Boss was down there with Pyle and Pyramid in terms of quality.

Boss is on the bottom of quality. Kenwood Excelon shallows might fit, SVC4ohm. Rockford P3's might fit(dual2ohm), but neither is in that price range. You might be able to find them somewhere online for around $119/each. Pioneer also makes a few shallows

the jl's do work great. but i don't believe the 12" is out yet. the 13.5 has been out for about a year.

Well it's not like I couldn't make the cutout a bit bigger for a 13.5". Got everything all hooked up yesterday and the subs surprisingly take a lot of power. They do hit over-excursion on low freqs and some fast bass hits, even with the gain down. Still is loud enough to rattle everything, except my nostrils (not loud enough until your nostrils vibrate). I'm thinking about getting a 2nd one of these amps and running one on each sub. I've got enough room for two amps and probably even two 15"s if i wanted to.

From the looks of this build (an old dresser), I don't think he'll spend for JL subs.

Yeah, I know. It's like, as soon as I get a job that makes it so I can afford things, I get married and have a kid. So in order for me to get a system, I have to sell my body tools off, which paid for the amp. My wife gets to drop $200 on Mary Kay junk, and we just spent about $400 on my daughters 3rd birthday, but no boom for me. I had her listen after I got it hooked up, and her first response was "that's annoying...." so I'll just have to skim money off my paychecks for a while to pay for some new subs and second amp.
