terry's showing us what he found was a problem, ive used some of terry box ideas and best box so far was brads box still in the crx now and does decent numbers, so far my best to date and last time before tree fell on it was 158.6 db on sensor and i had extra batteries and 16 volts on amp , now i need to find a new crx and i found automatic hehehe

common chamber is the way to go, you just need to build it strong and give it proper amount of port. not too much and not too little.

Every time I've added dampening material the scores went down as well. But, after some re-tuning the car was louder than without it, however the note was lower as well. I may be wrong, but the reason I came up with is- when you add the dampening material, you're effectively lowering the car's resonant frequency. So the next step was to lengthen the port/s. A particular example from my limited experiences with dynamat include these results: 162.1@64hz without dynamat 161.1@64hz with dynamat (down 1db) 161.4@63hz with dynamat (didnt change anything but note) 161.7@62hz with dynamat (still same box only diff note on HU) 162.4@62hz with dynamat after re-tuning box
A lot of money in Dynamat, applying, testing, and re-tuning for only 3 tenths. But 3 tenths was 3 tenths.

You are correct about lowering resonant frequency. But also in your test reason you didn't see much is you test/compete in the kick with door open and with back panels out. In street class with panels in and with door closed and meter at the dash you see a lot larger gain from dynamat. Makes sense why you didn't see much of a gain. And you're not the only person that also competes in usaci to say they didn't see much of a gain from dynamat.

These results are concurrent with legal scores as well. I've always tested on the dash as well as the kick because USACi's WR's were in the legal position.
I've only found minimal increases in amplitude after dynamat and retuning the system, legal and outlaw. But as mentioned, any gain is a good one right?

I tested my crx after dynamatting each section of the car. There are some spots that help, some spots that do nothing and some spots that hurt.Only place I haven't tried is the firewall because I have no idea how to get the dash off and then back on again. What type of box did firgard use (especially street a) I have never seen it
