Hey guys, first post on this forum and I'm looking for some input. I'm the old bass guy, 38 which means I've been doing this for 22 years now but my SPL expertise is limited. I'm currently running 3-12" Type-X Alpine subs which are good and musical but don't really have strong SPL characteristics. I'm running them in 2 cubic ft ported enclosures with 1000W to each of them. Can you recommend a good replacement for these to improve my SPL while keeping this a daily driver? Thanks for the input!

Honestly the type R's have greater spl capability than the type X's do. I would do a direct swap of subs and you'll see a difference. Also what kind of port area and tuning are you at?

I found to get the type x loud they like 3-3.25 cubes ported each. It took 6 boxes for me to get to that point but that was what got them going for me. About 1400 watts on each sub.

The current port area is built to Alpine spec...it's around 27 in at the opening..20in length something like that. I called Alpine to get it...the issue with the boxes really does seem to be total cubes?? I built them to the high end which was 2.5 cubic feet....it's interesting that you mention running them over 3? I would beleive it, I thought about adding some poly-fill just to test my theroy, but I haven't had the focus until now plus that method isn't exactly a perfect science if you know what I mean. I also didn't tell you guys a budget...I am prepared to spend around $500 per driver if needed and I will be happy to fab a new box if needed for proper operation of the subs. Thanks for the feedback, it is very appreciated!
